I mean they had been planning a protest in El Paso for a few weeks. Seems prudent they don't have a bunch of rabble rousers inflaming tensions in a terrible situation no? All the ghouls in the media will trout out the NRA as the boogyman the instant these events happen, it's clockwork at this point.
I think it would be more prudent to focus on why you've got some dude from Dallas hunting Mexicans in a Wal-Mart, but what do I know, I'm not a Texas Republican.
Then it sounds like the Lt Governor should be liaising with them and passing accurate information along to the people of Texas, rather than trying to push a talking point that obscures where political violence is coming from in 2019.
My ex mother in law actually posted something yesterday on Facebook that hurt my head. She stated everyone should respect each other’s sovereignty and borders like Americans do. I was at a loss for words. I have corrected her before but it’s like talking to a tree. A racist tree.
Gilroy and El Paso seem to be clearly racially motivated terrorism, but my guess on Dayton is that it'll show itself to be a more "standard" shooting (how fucked up is it that we have "standard" mass shootings?). The shooter killed his sister, which matches up with a pattern I've noticed in a lot of school shootings where the shooter will kill one or more family members before proceeding to the public targets.
And then there's all the shootings in Chicago: 3 killed, 37 wounded... but that won't make the news, because that's just Chicago being Chicago. https://chicago.cbslocal.com/2019/08/04/weekend-shootings-chicago-2/
I guess he killed his sister and her boyfriend at the bar. Definitely a domestic component of the shooting.
They're investigating the El Paso shooting as a hate crime, which in my opinion is the correct way. This time around I'm hearing more about mental health issues, about how people get radicalized online (in the case of El Paso with 8chan). Again, I think this is the right approach.
If anyone is curious about that El Paso shithead's manifesto, here it is. I know that some media outlets think it is important NOT to share this and read it; I think the opposite. The website I link to perfectly explains why: Also, here is a great article from Bellingcat about 8chan and the "gamification" of terror
Drudge had a link to the full non-redacted text. The parts about planning the shooting weren’t really that detailed if I recall correctly - not so much about strategy as he was just saying what kind of guns he was going to use. Completely apart from opinions on this event, and the overall issue: it dawned on me as I was reading it that this is a rare moment where I was reading something straight from the source, in its entirety, in its original intended context, without it being edited for effect or being quoted on a website telling me “what you really need to know” and “why this matters.” I was able to digest it all and form my own opinions to wrestle with.
Seems very similar to the Christchurch one where the shooter just threw in incendiary commentary to deliberately incite the left and right.
Luckily you don't live in New Zealand where you could be charged with having a copy of it....... I read an interesting article that highlighted the pure trolling nature of this and the Christchurch guys manifesto. A new form of political terrorism that has been cooked up by the likes of 4-8 chan to sow as much discord as possible. It's hard for me to read this shooter's words and not see that the whole climate change aspect of it isn't just a huge red herring he added to make sure each side of the political spectrum has the other side to blame. 8 Chan's host has already pulled the boards card and Trump is speaking tonight of the shootings.
To my understanding it has less rules and structure. If it wasn’t before it’ll be now like the running joke the FBI had about klan meetings in the 90s. If ten people get together 6 are agents and 3 are informants.
Yeah they were basically about which rifle (ak vs ar) and which bullet. I got the feeling those were deliberately put in there to catch media attention about the dreaded assault rifles. Also, a lot of the information was incorrect, plus he ended up using the rifle he bashed (civilian version of the AK). Reality is, when you go into a place like Walmart you’re basically ambushing unarmed people, and anyone who does have a concealed firearm is likely gonna use their run-fu. Piece of shit could have used a pistol and had the same impact at that point.
Say you’re just a mediocre shot. You hit the range here and there but not on a regular basis and your accuracy is just so-so. Do you think it’s easier to be more accurate with the the AK or AR than than a Glock or something? Personally, when I used to shoot my AR, between the complete lack of recoil and the added foregrip, I could hit anything dead on. And I’m a shitty shot with a pistol. I think people are shittier with pistols which is why they are hardly used in these situations.
I’m guessing the ranges these occur in probably with 10 yards or less. Maneuverability probably favors a pistol. But tightly packed crowds? It’s all just fish in a barrel. I was at a Michigan football game a few years back and funneling into the stadium I’ve been shocked that a big sporting event has never been hit. Thousands packed like sardines. Freaky you get scared thinking about that while in a crowd.
Given you have enough space to move around, a long gun will always be easier to hit your targets than with a pistol. As far as AR or AK platforms being more accurate? Not at face value. You still have to know what you're doing. They do have less recoil than a lot of wood stock rifles of the same caliber, but in my experience they take some getting accustomed to if the shooter has never fired that type of rifle. But in close quarters and point-blank range it doesn't really matter. The AK, however, will usually do more damage than the AR-15 due to the larger caliber. A lot of people think that an AR-15 is a big gun, but it's a relatively small caliber compared to most hunting rifles. It's not considered big enough for deer hunting, at least around here.
