To me, “woke” is synonymous specifically with “irrelevant”, “attention whore” and nothing else. If you use that word without irony to describe anything, I have a volcano dome for you to bathe in. It’s like “problematic”. Use it in a sentence, and you instantly matter no more.
As a minority, when I see reasoning like this it drives me up a fucking wall. From the perspective of a minority, it looks like that you don't give a shit about being an asshole to specific groups people because it makes you feel awkward or is otherwise inconvenient. Being a lazy, ignorant asshole is a fucking terrible reason to make marginalized people's lives harder. Everybody hates political correctness until the group they are in is "othered" by another group. Especially if that group happens to be in a place of privilege relative to the marginalized group. Oh, and It probably helps that survey that minorities are, by its very definition, at a numerical disadvantage. A straight black man might not give a shit about using the correct term for a transgendered person, but you better believe he'd give a shit about being called the n-word. It's 2019 and we still haven't even had a woman president yet. White people got so mad a black man became president, white supremacy made a comeback. Even though laws have been passed it doesn't fucking mean the impact of racism went away. The Civil Rights Act didn't stop white supervisors from never promoting black employees. It hasn't stopped judges from disproportionally sentencing black offenders with more prison time than white offenders. The percentage of women CEOs in Fortune 500 companies is 6.6%. I won't even get into a bunch of old straight white guys legislating away a woman's right to make her own healthcare decisions in the last few weeks. You are a straight white man with zero perspective on what it's like to be a minority. Maybe you should do some listening to minorities before you say stupid shit like nothing as important as the civil rights movement will ever happen again.
In fairness, there haven't been a lot of good female candidates. I know that the dem field is stocked with women right now, but to be honest.... I don't really care. I'm voting for the person who I think will do the job the best, whether they are a male or female, black or white, gay or straight, christian or atheist or Muslim, and no matter their political party.
"No good candidates" is a lazy, bullshit excuse. A bunch of other countries not named the United States of America have had multiple women heads of state. Are European women better than American women, or is there something in American society that prevents women from being leaders that can't necessarily be legislated away?
Jimmy, I think that the social mores have relaxed enough that quality candidates can be men or women. I understand your point, but I wonder if it applies as much now as it has in elections past? I get what RotN is saying, if a great candidate appears, Idc if it is a she/he/they, whatever. Don't make us constantly vote for the lesser of two evils, pull us forward with great candidates. Diversity is healthy, no problems out of me on that score.
No good candidate we can vote for to be President? It's not an excuse, it's just reality. Hillary was the only one we even got a chance to vote into office, and half of America fucked that one up because they thought the orange guy was more qualified. We've literally had one chance to vote a female into office. That's what I meant by there being no good candidates. Now, if we want to get into a discussion about WHY that is, I'm all ears. In my opinion, women, on the whole, make better leaders than men do. Unfortunately, my understanding is that at least American society believes largely the opposite.
Women simply don't get the opportunity to lead. That's why Hillary Clinton has been the only serious candidate in the history of the US. As long as this country has a plurality of men in power who ask women if they're on their period when they're upset, women will never get a fair shake. At least not until those men in power start listening to women and giving them the opportunity to succeed or fail on their own merits. Most men won't even let them do that.
Oh, I do, but the great thing about freedom is I can shake my head at how incredibly fucked up, bitter, and single minded you are, and not have to waste my time trying to dissuade you from an anger laden worldview you're pathologically obsessed with. Enjoy your narrow minded explanation of everything. May it lead you to the next thing as great as the civil rights movement, although as a betting man I'm guessing it won't.
My father said something decades ago that still resonates- “The US will have a black president long before a female is ever elected. Racism is prevalent in this country but sexism is downright systemic.”
The irony of this post from an angry Midwestern white man who voted for Trump because he was mad at political correctness and clearly can't be fucked to act like a decent human being towards people less fortunate to not have been born a straight white man is about as amazing as your failure to address literally anything I've said. You can't, so you can only be dismissive and wait for someone to post something else that you can somehow manage to call someone on the other side of the political aisle stupid. After all, what the fuck would I know about racism? I've only had the shit kicked out of me for doing nothing but existing. But sure, tell me that I'm angry as if I don't have a reason to be. You'd rather close your ears, eyes and mind and wallow in fucking ignorance because you live in an area of the country that assumes all black men are on the Packers. You know what? It would be great if life was as black and white as your stance on race relations, but it isn't. It isn't because of ignorant shitkickers like you who refuse to look farther than 100 miles from where they were born. In conclusion, I get to be angry because I've been the victim of hate crimes committed by jars of mayonnaise that populate this great country. You don't, because you're an ignorant, lazy, self absorbed asshole. Go fuck yourself forever.
If I caught you while school is still in session, tell us about you personally being marginalized. I'm interested in 2019 marginalization. Leadership isn't easy and it certainly isn't for everyone. Who would make a good female leader in your estimation and why? Is it because she is a female or is it because they possess what you feel are necessary traits and abilities? This is hyperbole, correct? Or you are saying someone you had never seen or interacted with prior attacked you and told you they attacked you because of your particular characteristics?
Why is it my responsibility to educate you on racism? Googling is not difficult. The real answer to this is who fucking cares if they have a vagina or not. The real question is why can't American women seem to get the opportunity to be leaders when it doesn't seem to be a problem in literally any other fucking place on the planet? No, no it fucking isn't. I'm not going to relate it to you or anybody else because talking about something as traumatic as being a hate crime victim to strangers on the internet will never ever happen.
If we're talking irony that's a lot of assumptions you made about me solely on my skin color. You don't seem interested in addressing me absent from it. Kind of defines the whole way you look at people, huh? Threw in some racial slurs like "jars of mayonnaise" for good measure. You have a very odd method for lecturing people on racism. As for your assumptions I'll address just a couple of them: 1. Political correctness wasn't what made me vote for Trump. I have no shortage of posts on the subject if you're interested in looking back. That said, it's apparent now that my hope that he would be more than an absolute jackass(or at least do some good while being a jackass) was misplaced. If I could go back I wouldn't vote for either. 2. Half of my upbringing was on the other side of the planet and I live in Florida right now. Sorry if the location by my username I'm too lazy to change threw you off. If you've been a victim of a hate crime I'm sorry to hear that. That said, if your way of addressing people is the linguistic equivalent of screaming "white motherfucker" over and over you shouldn't be so shocked if they dismiss, or don't like you.
I work with people who range the spectrum of sexuality, race, and religion. A lot of my in-laws have complete opposite experiences as me (a very insular environment, everyone is the "same"). I don't think it's appropriate, never mind accurate, to judge the experiences of someone else based upon your own. Even two people raised next door to each other can have completely different, and justified in their own right, worldviews. Sadly, I believe it is this complete misunderstanding - and lack of desire to understand - even our own neighbors, that has led us to our current political and social climate. I really wish it was different, but until we as a whole learn that it's ok for other people to be different than us, and that having that difference allows us as a community to be stronger both individually and together, I don't think much will change. It's something I'm trying to help by at least through my parenting and my job, but beyond that I really am at a loss for solutions.
So what has happened recently that makes you think this is a bigger issue or even the slightest bit as important as climate change, the shrinking middle class, wage disparity, the debt, healthcare, corruption, foreign policy or a dozen other issues? I'm really curious. And not directed at you, but what is so bizarre to me is how some people can't even accept that the above issues are more important to some (most!) voters. "No, you only care about whiteness blah blah blah." Ummmm... no dumbass, that's your obsession. Not mine.
Well....this is....different.... https://www.yahoo.com/news/congress...e-011921211.html?soc_src=hl-viewer&soc_trk=fb
"...he repeatedly expressed a desire to have sex with infants and children, including his own daughter." Put me in a locked room with him for 2 minutes, I'll solve all his issues.
