I think that one's even better: https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-politics-46865944/could-no-deal-brexit-lead-to-loo-roll-logjam
That’s hilarious. Never seen you post, so welcome to the board!! Since brexit doesn’t have any impact on me (that I’m aware of), I think it’s all hilarious. I imagine there’s going to be a lot more unintended consequences like what you posted.
Jon Oliver did a bit on it where they showed a flower producer that's been in the family for generations that was on the verge of being put out of business if Brexit goes through due to the shipping delays and border hassles. When the owner was asked whether he voted for Brexit, he said he did. 10:08 in the video below:
There's been a lot of sensationalist stories like that. It's goddamn pallets, they can import that from anywhere, like the US for example. Brexit can cause a huge shake up, don't get me wrong, but there are so many articles where business gets X from Germany or whereever and they act like in a post brexit world that product immediately dissapears off the face the Earth. Yeah, that's not how the global market works.
I think you're missing the point where they have to transition from a "just buy it here" vs "global markets with import/export rules". Either that or you're drastically underestimating the pain and time it takes to make such a transition. There are very large, very real companies pulling out of Britain right now because of this, because they don't want to have to deal with that "global" aspect of their trade... they were taking full advantage of the EU agreement that eliminated those barriers.
Thanks, I'm more of a super long time lurker (RMMB), rarely post anything. Apparently the UK parliament declined the proposed Brexit deal again (big surprise), so now they either out on april 12th no-deal, somehow pull an agreement they can agree on out of the hat or they ask for an extension. Problem with the extension might only be, that they'd have to participate in the EU elections that are coming and there might be people that don't want that happening (which I get, with them wanting to leave they really shouldn't be able to decide on EU affairs because they should be out by then). From what I read, to get an extension on the deadline, the rest of the EU has to unanimously agree, or they're out on the 12th. Should be interesting. I get what you mean, but to me it illustrates the insane degree that countries are dependent on each other.
Yeah, the resulting inflation crisis if a deal doesn't get through could be really ugly. That's a lot a scarier than "we can't find this". In a situation like the pallet crisis I would shocked if the UK doesn't get an exemption. After all they're not the only country that would get hurt there, but it's easy to see why a lot of country is on edge with the uncertainty.
I follow some prepper communities on reddit -- goes along with that other thread right? -- moreso because I think it's interesting than out of any desire to actually participate in the culture myself. It's astounding the number of people who are prepping for Brexit, like it's gonna fuck up their whole world. Here's a fascinating read about how some people are prepping for Brexit
Trump says he could close Mexico border to trade due to migrant caravans. I wish I could say that I'd be shocked if a sitting president would be dumb enough to risk wrecking the economy over brown people, but I honestly wouldn't be. Not after all the mutton-headed horseshit he's said about minorities.
Can’t really blame him there. Throughout his childhood he had Hasbro, his trusty umbrella-collapser servant always at his side.
Despite the hundreds of white house attendants of the modern era Trump finds a way. Is that a new a job opening I sense?
Anyone else think Buttigieg might have a legit shot at the Dem nomination? Incredibly well-spoken and likeable, what I'd consider to be moderate in his beliefs and policies.
I know we live in an alternate killer clowns from outer space reality, but the first major gay presidential candidate is really named Buttigieg? What 13 year old deity rules this universe?
But does his love for dick sufficiently counterbalance the fact that he’s white and has a dick of his own? Superficial qualities are the most important, after all.
I think the fact that he's not flamboyantly gay and brings up his sexuality only in context does a lot for him. He makes it part of who he is, not a defining feature. Like saying someone is a left-handed candidate. Imo this is how it should be, but not everyone agrees and people go to both extremes.
