The real shocking figure is the multiple billions it will cost to upgrade everything it requires to qualify as Air Force One. Once all that work is done on the taxpayers dime, do the taxpayers get to keep it for the next President to use? Of course not, it goes to the Trump Presidential Library Foundation.
To be clear... it's not a gift to the US to use as a new AF1, it's a gift to Trump for his personal use.
He's using it as a "temporary" AF1 while he's President, after which it'll be transferred to essentially his personal use. It will require massive taxpayer dollars to upgrade the security/communications/etc enough for it to be usable during his Presidency. All of that money goes with the plane; it's not like the US can recoup it.
Fake tarriff! We have laws for our politicians (that they manage to ignore unless called out) that prevents them from accepting gifts that cost more than a few hundred $'s. Even if the USA has similar rules I'm guessing ginger nuts are exempt from fake laws.
How funny would it be if it was outfitted with explosives and his massive ego wants to get it in the air without a full inspection? Or they just remote control-fly it into a mountain? How awesome would that be?
