And as a side note, whilst we claim to have a compulsory voting system all you really need to do is get your name ticked off, accept the ballot paper and put it into the ballot box. We have no laws that require you to actually mark the ballot paper. So reality is it's an au$20 fine for not voting, hardly an imposition. We also typically have less than 1% of invalid votes so it seems to be accepted. I can understand apathy or indifference to voting but non-participation just reduces the number of votes the 'winners' need get. At the least just vote backwards with the biggest wanker getting the least preference.
