Honestly, I would encourage anyone who has a real, direct path to dual citizenship to pursue it even if you have faith that the US will overcome the current issues. There's basically no downside unless you have a need for the higher US security clearances, and the socialized healthcare and portability of an EU passport is pretty amazing. Even if/when the US clears this current crisis, it has really underscored the fragility of the government and how quickly things can change. Spain may or may not be better in that respect, but having options is huge - especially in the freedom of movement within the EU.
