So I'd have to say, after the extended brake away I think they fine tune the show back to at least mid first season quality so far. The guy that plays the sports host cracks my shit up (where is that dude from?). Luckily they seemed to have gone more direct to stardom instead of languishing on it 2/3rds of the season. Best line so far: Sports host: Now that Ive put in my brownie points I'd like to point some girls in the brown. Kenny: Points some girls in the brown? What's that mean? Sports host: Fuck some ladies in the ass.
The role I remember Guy from is the Stepfather from Role Models. I'm liking this season, quite a bit actually, because I don't know how they do it, because Kenny is a detestable human being, but I love watching him win. Plus, this early in the season, you know it's just a set up for a crash and burn like we've never seen.
Yeah you know there will be some major downer time eventually since it has been in every season. As long as the can reign in the the weirdness, not having Will Ferrell shooting cannons in weird antebellum dinner ceremonies. Then it should be sweet.
It's Ken Marino. He was in Party Down, Wet Hot American Summer, and a bunch of bit roles all over the place. I think your point is the whole appeal of the show. He's so epically delusional that nothing is going to change him. So you'd rather things be going right for him otherwise its just going to be awkward as he fails like any number of idiot rednecks you know in real life. His bashing of his son Toby is sad but hilarious. The scene where they were asking him what he had, in the club, was also awesome.
I think the Kenny Powers character is actually rather complex. To fake being incredibly egotistical while at the same time being highly insecure and very unintelligent seems like a hard thing to act out. Do any of you find April to be attractive? I go back and forth between finding her hot and feeling that shes one weekend of eating away from being a whale.
It is. Too bad it was a body double in that first season episode. For the guys that worship "curvy" she's the top of the mountain. Im kind of in xrayvision's camp sometimes she looks fucking stunning others the 40 something house wife that's let herself go (like the show loves to mock). For my money I'd take that Spanish girl he was hooking up with in season two who had Vida Guerra's dumper.
I loved the most recent episode. Watching the kid with the wolf was hysterical, and Kenny is back to his usual fucked-upness. Him shoving that co-host out of the boat had my wife and me in tears. The coming attractions for next week appear to have Kenny setting himself up for the inevitable crash and burn. Of all the shows I watch, this one is the only that exceeds my expectations on a weekly basis.
And it was well worth it. This series, which wasn't supposed to come back because the writers didn't want it too, have done the unthinkable: Made this the best season so far. I can not wait to see Kenny Powers in marriage counseling.
Was completely underwhelming. I raised my eyebrows but had hoped he said more than mumbling a few words.
It wasn't spectacular but it was shocking to me to see him looking like that. I do wish there was more though.
"I win." With only two more episodes, I know they say its the last season but we need more. Even with 18 months in between seasons it has again become worth the wait.
I couldn't agree more. I think there is so much set up that they could do at least one more solid season. But maybe the whole 'leave them wanting more' thing is true. If this show is truly done in two episodes, I'll have to rate it one of the better comedies of the last 20 years. Fresh, great (though not necessarily likable) characters, absurdity, consistency, and awesome writing, and insane quotability make this show one of the best things I've seen in a long time week in and week out.
I mean you can hope he is able to take over the sports show and win April back in the end. I'd like to see Kenny come out on top. I also wish they'd have more John Hawkes too. I miss seeing him on HBO. I think he just does the indie movie circuit in hopes of snagging an Oscar.
He's always going to be Saul Starr to me. He is an awesome actor but I have trouble seeing him outside of Deadwood.
I think he was robbed when he didn't win the Oscar for his part in Winter's Bone. Very powerfully played.
Fuck that he was robbed as Store Clerk Who Can't Shoot Straight in From Dusk 'till Dawn. Seth told him to be cool, and he couldn't be cool. He's a great actor, he still appears on the show despite how sought-after he is because he's friends with Jody Hill and McBride.
