Focus: the best and worst of the super bowl commercials. Discuss

Personally I think the commercial featuring Detroit and eminem showcasing the new chrysler 200 was the absolute best. The close second place was the kid darth fader commercial. (vids to be posted later)

I only caught a couple but I am going to buck the trend and say I was unimpressed by Child Vader, and am unmoved by the fact that he has a pacemaker.

This was my favorite. Only because I can imagine people with the "Free Tibet" bumper stickers getting offended by it, and I do enjoy good satire.

The child vader that was "leaked" on the internet was better than the edited one that appeared during the actual super bowl.

I think I was the only one at my party laughing at the Cram It In The Boot bit.

And, I actually liked the Audi commercial.

Generally, though, I give the total commercial package a C- for this year. Must be the economy.

I think that the strategy of using the top user submitted commercials, a strategy that Dorito's/PepsiMax implemented this year and in the past, is an excellent marketing scheme in which you air the cream of the crop, while also generating brand interest and saving costs. SportsNation and I agree that Dorito's had the best commercials of any brand for Super Bowl XLV, so it seems like they hit their mark with that strategy.

Honorable mentions go out to "Imported from Detroit" and "Arrive in Style", both from Chrysler, who brought the inspiration instead of the funny. Really well done with a strong message.

Youtube is blocked at work so I can't source videos or see the ones you guys have linked but top three would be Imported from Detroit, the Audi commercial with the rich old men escaping the prison, and the Kid!Vader - Kid!Vader really worked on the music alone.

Holy shit, did they ever. I actually downloaded the app at the recommendation of a friend last night (didn't even see the commercial), and all of the reviews were based off of that. Tons of 1 stars from offended douchers, and tons of 5 stars from people pissed at the 1 stars for being pussies. I had to scroll through pages of reviews to actually get useful info on the app itself.

    Getting back to the focus:

Our old friend Kungfu Mike posted this on facebook about the Eminem/Detroit commercials:

    My thoughts exactly.

I liked that one. Maybe I've been in too many fratty sports bars where the whole place sings along to stuff like Bon Jovi and Journey. Didn't need the Clydesdales though. They just confused the message.

Oddly enough, Lose Yourself starts by talking about choking, and the song is about making a comeback. I think the message is to approach opportunities like they're you're only chance, not that you literally only get one shot.

Am I the only one that thought this was an intentional homage (rip off) of the scene in Almost Famous, rather than a tribute to "sports bars where the whole place sings along?"

I thought the Doritos one where the guy sucks the other guys' finger was kinda gross, actually.

Kid Vader was a rip off of another commercial from a few years ago where the Dad shows the kid how he starts the car with the magic word.

The commercial for House was awesome. (Not the 7 second one BL1Y put up, the one where he bounces his cane off the kid's head.)
