I'm looking for new mods. It's a thankless job, and you'd be an idiot (in the truest sense of the word) if you wanted to do it. Apply within, and tell us all why you should be a mod. If you can't do that, then you don't have what it takes to do the job. The rest of you, voice your opinions... who would you nominate? Tell us why those who have applied should NOT be a mod. Keep it civil, but don't hold back. Go.
I nominate Juice. That guy is always lurking. Plus, we would be assured a steady flow of poop threads.
Ah fuck it I'll throw my name out there, I have helped mod of few hunting and fishing forums, I have the time to invest in this place, hell when it is busy I burn more time here than I would like to admit. Personally a diverse group of Mods really helps a forum in my opinion. The forum I helped with had a real bad case of group think which lead to a shitshow and no new members. Barring that I nominate Dixie, be a good gift when he gets out of the can.
I nominate myself, because I'm basically more wonderful than any one else. I also have a stupid amount of free time these days. Finally I would bump all the best threads. (See me aforementioned wonderful.) Plus I want to be able to use the phrase "my ban hammer shall smite thee to the very depths of hell" in earnest at least once before I die.
Appreciate it. I don't get into pissing matches with anyone and actively trying to settle them down when they do arise. Plus I've modded before elsewhere so I know the deal with how it works. I've been around this place for a few years now, would anyone have an issue with it? If so, let me know and it's something I'll work on whether I become a mod or not.
I should be a mod, as I possess all the necessary qualities to make a great one. One: I'm creepy. I've stalked all the ladies mercilessly, endlessly spamming their PM boxes with requests for boobs, or in the alternative, cute kitten pictures. Ok, fine, I've asked for some of the guys too. For boob pictures. Two: I'm vindictive. I once hated a poster who used 'there' instead of 'they're' for a whole week. I mercilessly taunted them from afar. I also resolved to smite them with a copy of Strunk and White the next time, or really the first time, I ever saw them. Three: I'm hardworking. I edited my own post one time. I believe I used 'to' instead of 'too.' This bothered me. So I made soup and a sandwich, looked at the post several times to determine if there was any reason to justify the use of 'to' and after what seemed like hours (it was actually about three minutes), I sacked up and hit 'edit.' I handled that problem exquisitely. Four: I'm politically correct. I don't use words like 'retard,' or 'normal' unless they're absolutely called for, instead generally using 'slightly front lobally disconnected' and 'cisgender' unless 'retard' and 'normal' are called for, which unfortunately they have always been. I also referred to a female board member as 'a hottie' once. Well, publicly. More so in private. To myself. While crying. In the dark. Five: I'm informed. I know just enough about nothing to be of any value whatsoever. I can provide references upon request. Thank you for your time. VI
I'll throw my chair into the ring. I have a few ideas to make this place better. As it is, it feels like a clubhouse where outsiders have a very little shot to actually get anything out of it. We use to be all about telling interesting stories and having smart discussions. Now it's mainly about being drunk and talking about what you're doing. That's not very interesting to someone on the outside. For example, I think a politics forum with very strict rules could work. We should also go back to discussions on current events, not only does that revive the board a little bit, it also improves our SEO and attracts new members. We have a very interesting mix of funny and smart people, it would be a shame to see it go to waste.
In all seriousness, the folks (besides myself) that have put their names forth would all make good additions. Realistically, they are the folks that have stuck it out through some thin times recently, and several of them (including binary) have tried to come up with solutions to keep this place (or a mirror image) of it going. While I think everyone at times has personal differences with others (and say what you want, it's only the internet - but like it or not, we have some window into each other's lives, and actually seem to care about what happens to others. Does that mean we're friends in the normal sense of the word? Maybe not, but there is a relationship there, even if it's only zeros and ones) that realistically can't be avoided given how long the core group here has posted together (going on ten years in some cases!) So you wanted input about nominations, my input is I think any one of them would do a fine job and certainly give it their best. Except for me, I'd use my power for evil. Hey, why else get power if you're not going to abuse it?
It's so hard to pick just one. Um, how many? I vote for the old people, we got to stick together. And by old I mean...how old is toddamus, I want to pick that so he knows how it feels to be called old. 29? Then that. In all serious everyone mentioned so far would be great. And we always need mods at 4 am. Those crazy Austalians.
The Mod Squad I'll support Juice and Wheelz. Just because I want to see when Juice locks somebody out and replaces their avatar with a Cosby face; and Wheelz, so he can ban one person.
I've moderated a handful of boards in the past and still do on one. You guys who volunteer for that duty are maybe a mite touched in the head. Juice, VI, and flat rate I think would all be solid. Moderating requires a serious detachment from emotional response, so when someone says something that pisses you off - but doesn't break any rules (which - for advice and ESPECIALLY IN EVENT of a politics thread should be clearly defined) there's not abuse of position.
