It is my understanding that he tried to detain Arbery (which was charged as false imprisonment) and that he struck Arbery with his car in that attempt (which was charged as aggravated assault). He was found not guilty of malice murder because he was unaware of the gun, but because he was convicted on the aggravated assault charge, that gave them enough for felony murder, which he was also convicted of.
The Rittenhouse DA took a tough case and lost it. This guy took a "we're not even taking this to a grand jury" and turned it into a murder conviction.
Don't forget getting the prosecutor indicted. It's a glorious example of a fuck up leading to justice.

The rittenhouse and arbery cases, so close together and in juxtaposition, perfectly expose the left and right media — in almost soundbite form — for being hypocritical. With rittenhouse, the left is all about how he should have had a gun there to begin with and thus had no right to self defense. With the arbery case, obviously the cover up and the pre-trial victim blaming by right wing media. I’ll still turn on cnn or msnbc as my default when an actual news event happens, like the condo collapse or whatever. But for crap like this? Both sides are equally guilty of the same biased shit. And their consumption zealots piss me off equally.
