Totally forgot this started this past weekend. I haven't seen the first episode yet but downloading it now. After last season I was glad when they announced this would be the final season. I was also impressed with Chloe Sevigny when she came out and spoke what was on every fans mind, season four sucked. But then of coarse she had to go and do a PR retraction. There was a time when this was, in my mind, the top drama on TV.
What do you expect they were always the two most contemptible characters on the show? I liked how Don lost the flat top and grew some fucking balls. Not to be out done at anything Bill one upped him and stated that he thought his decisions may have been wrong and are ruining his whole family. Too which Don was pretty uncaring. He was only going to take Bill's shit for so long. Also Barb calling Nikki the fuck out. That felt good. Overall I thought it was a decent episode not great but it did set up a lot. Most of the story lines set up were pretty interesting, Barbs looks the best too me. I have a feeling that Bill's Senate life will be short lived and he'll be move towards taking back the compound from Albie. I don't like that they might write off the whole Weber gaming line and that Marg might be trying to fuck a infomercial salesman.
Worst.Christmas.Ever. Spoiler Alby is killing puppies. Barb is drinking. Bill's mom has dementia. Margie was underage when she married Bill. Nicki's daughter found out her dad is dead. The casino is part strip club now. I swear they took all the plot lines of the entire series and threw them into one episode. Hopefully, something will stick.
Up until this episode I thought they were going at too fast of a pace, much like last season. But this episode, though filled with new plot lines, seemed slower and a bit more introspective. I liked it. Plus the two new lines, Bill's mother and Margenes past, are really good and not as fantastical as a lot of last seasons plots (inbred monster babies, knocked up Russians, Avian smuggling, Mexican executions, etc). I wonder what type of wrath Albie will try and bring down on Bill now.
Spoiler If Margie has never shown her license or birth certificate to store management, how did she get hired at the store in the first place??? From Wikipedia:
God is Nikki's lying psychotic behavior back in full force or what? It seems pretty obvious now that Barb would have wanted a 3rd wife that bad. Over all this was probably the best directed episode so far this season. Pretty powerful stuff even Soprano-esque with the random dream sequence. Fucking Rhonda! I couldnt believe they brought her back. No way that bitch doesnt fuck some shit up. Without that huge hair I bet that girl is a fox. Im wondering if they'll bring back Bill's brother and his wife(s)? The whole murdering of Roman is basically basically a dead storyline. But I actually enjoyed his insanely quirky and neurotic wife and Im wondering how theyll handle them as the show winds down.
Looks like we're the only two watching here. Honestly, this season is shaping up very well. I really did not see the last scene of this past episode coming. Otherwise, I like Barbs priesthood storyline, I don't know much about the Mormon faith but it is some good drama when one of Bill's wives is going against their very values. Looks like Albie is about to finally go all out against Bill. You picking up on the mass amount of sexual tension they throw at most of the women in this show? Marge and the Goji berry guy, Carolyn and her gay looking middle aged teacher, and even Barb and that intern she's been going back and forth with. They really make you feel like there is going to be some fucking going on...
I've been watching too but honestly there hasn't been too much to talk about. I do like how this season is panning out though. If I had to guess I'd say Bill ends up with Nikki while Barb and Margene go off on their own.
Im starting to agree, this season is really amping up the somberness, kind of hard to talk about compared to the previous fast paced ones. But Ive always disliked the fast paced flow and think the show is really shining now. Anyway, I literally cringed when the gay teacher said "Im falling in love with you" in the hokiest voice of all time. I know they foreshadowed the relationship but god did he blow the delivery. Also, Ben and stripper Rhonda? I am imagining their characters speeding towards a brick wall at full speed and Ben is totally oblivious.
Sorry, I've been busy and didn't get a chance to get back here. The sexual tension, in my opinion, is akin to the "new opening" they've been showing this and last season. As you may recall, it used to be the four of them wondering aimlessly and finding each other. Now it's shots of them falling down. I think what the writers have set up is the writing arc of the story they want to tell. All of the characters seem to have overcome their initial vices, and now a downward spiral has begun. Barb is questioning the Priesthood. Nikki is challenging Barb for superiority. Margie is fantasizing about her boss (and me...hopefully) Bill is dragging his family through the mud in a "noble" effort. The common thing I see here is that each has shown that the teamwork between the four is breaking down. It would not surprise me to see Nikki get booted from the marriage (or leave when Bill decides Barb will always be number 1), and Margie go quietly away as well leaving Bill and Barb at the end of the show. It also wouldn't surprise me if the teacher turns out to be a polygomist.
I honestly don't know if the show has ever been better than the past few episodes. It has gotten that good. All of the stories are taught and inter connected perfectly. The score and cinematography have been top notch. I think all three wives particularly Margene and Nikki deserve Emmy nods. I think it's that good. If it has a strong ending it could go down around Six Feet Under as far as over all quality. Got to give it to Ginnifer Goodwin (and I would over and over and over) for her performance this episode. Somehow she made it believable that she could be outraged at Carri Lynn's supposed "love" for an older man while facing police questioning herself over her marriage too Bill. I thought the Goji berry shit was kind of weak until this episode where they pitted the pyramid scheme cult of goji against the cult of polygamy. Bill facing 20 years is fucking nuts. I wonder if the story will even make it too his trial, there are only two more episodes left. I guess he won't be resigning to get the charges dropped. Knowing him he'll end up refusing anyway hoping to somehow overcome all of his enemies and trials through his shear force of self righteousness. Though he actually looked like a beaten man after his lawyer told him 20 years. He sounded pretty broken by the end of the episode. Im thinking the final climax will come with his show down with Alby and not with a trial. I don't see how they let Alby survive the series or at least as a free man. The slow build is finally paying off and this series has found an expert flow. Honestly, if this had been last season I'd be howling for more and would have been satisfied them continuing if theyd had kept this quality.
Question: Am I supposed to hate Bill as much as I do? All of his self-righteousness makes me insane. I love Barb and Margene & Nikki drive me insane, but she is supposed to. Also, is it me or is Alby's hair getting taller each episode? (I secretly love him b/c of his hatred for Bill)
