I saw this today on filmdrunk : http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2011/04/scene-breakdown-airborne#page/1 Whats the best 90's movie? More along the lines of nostalgia than Pulp Fiction/Shawshank. My Vote
1. The Little Giants ("Every night before he goes to bed, I massage his hamstrings with evaporated milk") 2. Angus 3. Heavyweights ("Attention, campers. Lunch has been canceled due to lack of hustle. Deal with it.") 4. The Sandlot ("You play ball like a girl!") 5. Home Alone 6. Problem Child/Problem Child 2
I'm coming in fangs out on this thread: ...make no mistake, I think this movie sucks. I still do. But if you were to define to 90's pop culture's common denominator, it is this film. A time when in fashion the loudness of the 80's made love with the loose-fitting grunge era and people dressed like gay hippie shamans. A film where the dweeb (once again) triumphs over the school's toughest dude ("SHUSH!!!!") and steal's Tough Dude hottest-girl-in-school's girlfriend. The soundtrack is as flavour-of-the-moment pop generic as it gets. Most importantly of all, it's the film that... ....here it comes.... ...made Pauly Shore a headlining star and household name. Seriously, morons ate this movie up and everybody in it. It destroyed Resevoir Dogs at the box office that year.
That's probably the movie from that decade I've watched the most. It's become a timeless treasure, I never tire of watching it.
Just to clear up any confusion no one in Cincinnati gives a fuck about hockey and racing down Mnt Adams is actually suicide. I think Encino Man is probably tops as far as cheesetastic 90's nostalgia anything with Pauly Shore is up there, Son in Law is probably his best movie. Got to give it Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 1 and 2 to with the Ninja rap. Movies like The Sandlot and Dazed and Confused aren't really 90's cheese, I think theyre just great child/teen nostalgic movies released in the 90's decade.
Just realized that BlueDog brought this up in the drunk thread. Also a phenomenal film. Edit: Anyone else think that these trailers do a good job of actually previewing the movie instead of being soundbites?
<a class="postlink" href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Break" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Point_Break</a> Surfing, Swazye, Keanu Reeves and Garey Busey. I love to watch this when I'm hung over.
I'm waiting for KIMaster to come here and let everyone know that their movies suck and that here is something from some dead Asian guy which is 1000 times better or, he like me will agree that The Big Hit (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0120609/) was the greatest movie of that decade. It had Marky Mark, with frosted tips. Seriously though I have to say The Big Lebowski gets my vote. Even though I'm sure I didn't get that movie when I first saw it.
Probably because it doesn't fit the focus of the topic? And neither does "The Big Lebowski". According to the first 10 odd posts, we're talking about a film that defined 90's cheesy culture, not the actual best film. Focus- 10 Things I Hate about You was a pretty quintessential 90s film, as well as being one of the few high school romcoms ever made that I like.
What, you're saying it isn't? With its standard cast of 1990's cliche characters, local punk bands, and depiction of school and dating?
