In celebration(?) of the US Memorial Day weekend, and the announcement of the green light for Top Gun 2, let's show our remembrance for those that served by having a focus on war movies.
While not really your typical, run-of-the-mill war movies, I enjoyed a couple of "mercenary" flicks, one starring the recently deceased Roger Moore: The Wild Geese: and Chritsopher Walken's The Dogs of War: Typical 70's shitty movie making with questionable plots but very enjoyable on a boring Saturday afternoon, nonetheless.
Top Gun 2? Lord, all the possible half-naked and oiled scenes. I see a lot of Blu-Ray footage being leaked to gay porn sites.
Aw shit, as soon as you said Top Gun I thought it would be an all-weekend tribute to the volleyball game scene. And I think "Glory" is the greatest war movie ever made. Apocslypse Now Redux and Born on the 4th of July are perfect movies too.
Like YOU never drove to Grand Bend blasting "Playing With The Boys". You own a Jeep, don't bullshit me.
Would this be a good thread to complain about Pearl Harbor? Whoever greenlit that turd as-is deserves to be executed via machete and mob.
Can we please have one Drunk Thread where the volleyball scene isn't brought up? Also, I thought that a lot of the extra material in Apocalypse Now : Redux was boring and unnecessary. Like all that shit with the French people.
It was also the most expensive movie ever made at the time. And it suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked. One of the lamest summer "blockbusters" ever filmed. Then again, so was Speed 2: Cruise Control. Honest to God, most expensive movie ever made in 1997. You simply must watch that movie now. It's almost as bad as "The Room".
Yeah the French dinner scene is lame. There is a whole lot of amazing stuff cut though. It's my prefereed version.
Like when they get to fuck the playboy playmates for a few gallons of gas? I think Redux adds depth to Sheen's cold and shut-own character, and we get to know him better.
It's not a "war movie" per se, but there's a bunch of soldiers in it: Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, and Malin Akerman are shooting a movie about 1/2 a mile from my house. (Rampage, based on the video game) They were blowing shit up and firing rounds all night last night, and they're at it again tonight. 'murica.
Sounds like my house on any given night of the week. I wish I could say they were shooting a movie here.
ExH2 loved that movie. LOVED it. Is there a better war movie than Saving Private Ryan? And it's not a movie but Band of Brothers is hands down my favorite ever.
I was just clicking by TCM and Sgt York is on. It's old and corny, but I haven't watched it since I was a kid. So I'm watching it.
