The thread for all you F1 fans. Talk about anything F1 related, including how Bernie is the Devil's asshole. For any previous RMMB members this should just be a continuation of that board's F1 thread. For starters: Jenson Button is Formula-1 World Champion. I never thought I would say that. Many people think he doesn't deserve it (I among them), that it was the car and that the real champion should be Barrichello. However, he still managed to score points even when he wasn't winning. When the chips were down he was still there to take the table scraps with a smile on his face. Whether team orders allowed him to win those early season races is a moot point, after all Bari at this point in his career should have ignored team orders far earlier in the season, Button did what he had to do and now he is champion. As much as I throw up in my mouth every time I say it I have come to accept it. Hamilton still passed 14 cars to get on the podium.......suck it Trebek.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Team orders are a fact of life. Not just in Formula 1 but in all forms of motor racing. That said, I usually feel that whomever wins the Formula 1 championship deserves it. I may not like the winner but it is a pretty fair scoring system in my mind and the winner is deserving. I think even better is that the championships have been so close the last few years. It has been far more interesting to watch then the abortion that NASCAR has become in the last 20 years.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Interlagos was a hell of an entertaining race. Some serious fucked-up-ed-ness from certain rookie drivers, and another heartache for Reubens, but damn was it ever exciting. Nice touch to see Massa do the checkered flag, too... as much as I can't stand the dweeb, it was good to see him. His long interview on the BBC sounded good, even if he was overcompensating for his fear a bit. Even more enjoyable was imagining what Coulthard was thinking while watching him being interviewed... he had a "you slimy little shit" look on his face. Glad to see Button win. Again, I wish Reubens got a podium, but that last minute flat was enough to kill even that chance. Next year will be interesting, to say the least. Brawn was total class, firstly remembering/thanking those he had to let go early on in the year when the team had to downsize.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread If I were Button I'd count myself as lucky and call it a career right then and there. Or maybe after picking up some nice contract cash next season.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread How can any of us forget about this? http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=312_1255979414&p=1
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Yeah... no kidding. I was amazed he was able to carry on. I was also amazed that the car was able to finish... I figured some electrical thing somewhere was fucked for sure.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Anyone have thoughts on the American Team that is supposed to run the 2010 season. I know they are going to be based out of Charlotte, North Carolina with a second shop in Europe. Peter Windsor is one the owners and other than that I really do not know what the status of the team is. My first thought is it will not work as the logistics of getting parts and updates to Europe from Charlotte will be either too expensive or take to long. Data can cross the Atlantic instantly now, but parts still need to be shipped or flown. I do hope they have some success as it has been since 1967 that an American designed and built F1 car has won.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread The team is named USF1 and co-owned by Peter Windsor and Ken Anderson. Here the Wiki for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Team_US_F1 Windsor stated today or yesterday that he would seriously consider Kyle Busch for a seat if he wanted the ride. Personally I think he's too arrogant and loud mouthed to have as a representative to the international racing community. I'm still hoping they hire Jonathan Summerton from A1 and at least give Scott Speed the chance to test for the team to see if he can be competitive when given proper backing. Some rumors say they might hire Villenueve for the veteran driver's seat. I've also heard the rumor that they won't be ready to run next season though I think at this point it is all speculation, the word from Windsor is that everything is on track for 2010.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread With Todt, we'll just see a continuation of Bernie and Max, I fear. USF1 has not announced any corporate sponsors and just says there is much interest in sponsorship. No drivers have even tested with them yet. Unfortunately there is no way they will be running in 2010.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread I'm not sure you can make sweeping statements like that about F1. Look at Brawn - they had only a few weeks to assemble a team for the season, and they fucking won! All they had was the car and drivers and some team personnel - they had to dismiss a number of people. It took them at least one race, if memory serves me correctly, to get a sponsor in place. More importantly, who will be supplying the engine to USF1? I haven't had internet access for a few weeks, so I'm a little out of touch. I'm still undecided on Todt, though.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread I am impressed like hell with Kobayashi. He did great in Brazil, considering he was driving a Toyota. And coming from US motorsports as my base, anyone who makes F1 drivers whine about being overly aggressive is an automatic favorite in my mind. These are the idiots who bitched about Juan Pablo Montoya. That guy is only in the top 2/3rds as far as aggression in NASCAR. Kobayashi seems to be keeping it up in practice for the Abu Dhabi GP, and I'm hoping he'll make a career out of it. F1 needs a few asshole aggressive drivers.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread But USF1 doesn't have a car, sponsors or the personnel. Not to mention no one representing USF1 has attended a meeting of the teams for 2010 yet. Other than one investor in the CEO of Youtube, Chad Hurley, they have no financial backing. Cosworth had been their supplier but a lot of rumors that USF1 is trying to back out and switch to Toyota power.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread I cant believe Mark Webber actually turned it on and got some results this year. He seemed to worry less about bitch, moaning and blaming the car and more about actually racing which obviously worked for him. Hopefully he can do a bit better next year.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Brawn took over Honda. They didnt create a brand new team for F1. The US team is starting pretty much from scratch in the series with everything, the car development, personel etc etc. So I think you can´t really compare those 2 things.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Toyota's out, and I couldn't care less. They have an illustrious history of cheating in Motorsports, and I'm happy they never ever won anything.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread USF1 will probably buy all the old Toyota stuff and move from there. There are no *new* teams in F1 - almost every current team (with the exceptions being Ferrari and Red Bull) can be traced back to an old team folding up and the new one buying all their stuff. The last team to be created from the ground up was Jordan (whom, I think, are now Force India?) - just about everyone else had cars cannibalised from other teams. It would be foolish to think USF1 would not jump at the opportunity to purchase Toyota's old equipment, even if it would be mostly for testing purposes. I can't say I'll miss Toyota either - they've been perennially disappointing. Mostly because Jarno Trulli is a perennially disappointing driver, with so much talent and no consistency.
Re: 2009 Formula 1 Season Thread Heh. Did Ross Brawn just fix up and flip an entire race team in one season? Yes. Yes he did. Epic.
