I use an amazon fire tv myself. PSVue replaces most of the cable. I sideloaded kodi with a lot of streaming addons for everything not on PSVue. I couldn't be happier. I also like that I can take it anywhere with me.

Nice. I've got the most recent Raspberry Pi running as a Kodi box in my shop. Does a great job.

My parents got a Sharp Roku TV on Black Friday last year. Stupid thing takes 30-40 seconds to turn on, and it absolutely refused to do anything until I set up a Roku account for them. Just sat there on the setup screen with no way to skip. Fuck that. A TV should be able to do TV things without needing an internet connection.

What if your TV only gets channels through a wireless connection?

Plex is awesome. Like others, I have a Firestick with Kodi but I'm finding I don't mind waiting for a quality version to watch so it doesn't get used terribly often.

I won a Nexus Player at Google HQ and it's so close to being great, but there are a few PITA things about it that sent me back to the chromecast.
    1. It tries to route everything through an installed app. So if I'm logged into the Netflix app on my phone, try to cast something to the Nexus player, it will try to pull it up on its own Netflix app, which may be logged into a different account or not logged in at all.
    2. Similar to #1, if I try to cast an HBO show from my phone, it will go through the HBO GO app, which for some insane reason Comcast doesn't support on the player (but does on my Android phone). So I can't watch HBO on it at all.
Both Netflix and HBO will cast to a chromecast from my phone with zero issues or hassle.

Mine took his pants off several times this morning, and has decided his go-to outfit is Bogs and nothing else.

re: Apple TV, I'm considering buying another one. Ours is like...3 and change? years old and it sounds like the newer version has some better functionality.

Any recommendations for Phoenix? Staying in Scottsdale. Anything around the stadium would be a plus, I'd like to get over there a few hours before the game to try to avoid some traffic.

    You make it sound nefarious.

We all know he own's a legally owned and operated brothel, there is nothing criminal about it.

I spilled my GD gin and tonic on my end table.

The good news is that I didn't spill it all and that no electronics were harmed. My brand new used copy of Stephen King's The Eyes of the Dragon that's been parked there for a month or two is also safe because my son passed out on me earlier and I finally started reading it and it was left sitting on the couch.

The bad news is that my pile o' knitting crap wasn't so lucky. Nothing a little wool wash won't fix though.

More good news, my end table is clean now.

    Note to self:
    Dear Self,
    Gin cleans tables.
Correction, Gin & tonic cleans tables. Remind me to buy more tonic. And gin.

Seems like reason enough to have a gin and tonic now.

Plus if you have enough of them, you'll probably find out how well G&T cleans all sorts of things.

Given the current state of the billion or so assholes who want to be the next YouTube celebrity by baiting cops on camera, Mr. Show nails this perfect:

In case you're interested, Space-X is now live casting their first "used rocket" launch.

    Holy shit that was amazing!

Space-X has now re-used a rocket successfully... in just under 9.5 minutes, it took off, released the 2nd stage, and then landed successfully on Of Course I Still Love You.

    What a huge, huge milestone.

Elon is so overwhelmed right now... this was 15 years in the making.
