I'm a teacher in a small rural school. We are behind the times in so many things it is hard to keep track, but there is one issue front and center this year: school shootings. We have finally decided that we need a crisis plan to deal with an active shooter situation. We have been talking about this for a couple years, but nothing materialized. This lead to an hour and a half discussion with all of our building's staff to figure out procedures in case something goes down. It was hilarious and maddening. We lack all the necessary tools (like an intercom system that is loud enough to hear reliably), and no one has any of the necessary training or education to determine what we should do and how we should do it. However, that didn't stop some people from speaking with full confidence and authority about how to handle things. It wasn't Gecko45 bad, but it was close. Focus: When have you seen someone completely out of their depth act with complete confidence?
I have a buddy that is just okay looking, in sub par shape, and doesn't really have any standout features about him. However, he shamelessly will go around at bars and hit on the hottest girls there. I've never seen someone lacking a fear of rejection in that way. He just doesnt care. And more often than anyone would imagine, he is able to pick up great looking women this way. He chalks it up to the law of averages in that if he hits on every girl at a bar, its bound to work on at least 1 or 2 of them. Its perplexing and astonishing to see something with that kind of unabashed confidence.
I am a middle aged man that has pretty much never met a bad decision I didn't like. I have no career, no real relationship, no family, and no friends. I essentially have no future. Why would I say that? Because the one real piece of advice I'd ever have to offer anyone at this point is the following: The reality is life is a shell game. Success often hinges upon the perception of success. Pretty much every person I've met is 'out of their depth' in some way. Yet the ones that seem to succeed are the ones that unabashedly go forward with confidence that they can do it, despite the lack of knowledge when they start. For instance, read 'The Innovators' by Walter Isaacson. Most of those folks got into things and had no idea what they were doing, but they were fearless. Or maybe able to act despite the fear. Maybe that's what confidence is, one way or the other, the ability to act without fear, or despite the fear. I always envy people like that, and I don't see too many of them.
While I found those posts mildly amusing, it was really, really obvious that both of those guys were trolls. Anybody can write a heap of retarded nonsense.
You just described someone who clearly isn't out of his depth. Anti-focus? Focus: I want to contribute constructively here, but I've had the fortune to not know any real Dunning–Kruger casualties. I think being friends with a compulsive liar for a couple of years in high school might have helped me choose better company over the years.
