All I know is that it's only a matter of time before we have a bowl game named after a condom company. Bank on it. How special can these games be when there's 3 dozen of them? Imagine if the NFL had 5 "Super Bowls" each year.
Florida has their new coach......who was suppposed to be Texas's Will Muschamp EDIT: And now Auburn has a third Heisman Winner
I hope this thread off. I am entered in Bowl contest and quite frankly when it comes to Conference USA, ACC, Big East I really do not have much of a clue on how they matchup against their opponants. I am hoping to get some insight before the first game on the 18th. Nevada Reno will run right past Boston College. BC may have a high rated run defence, but they have never seen a quarterback run like Colin Kaepernick.
Meh, I don't think any of them are worth watching until the MAACO bowl on Wednesday. I think Boise St wins decisively, but I didn't think they would lose to Nevada either.
My homerism has a lot to do with it, but I'm with everyone who's saying the Capitol One bowl is going to be the best non-BCS bowl this year. The defending champs vs. the Big Ten champs, plus you have that whole Saban-at-MSU thing going on. Ten years later the football program gets a chance to exact revenge... imagine if Michigan played West Virginia sometime soon. Even though I started the thread, I honestly won't be watching until around Christmas. So many of these silly bowl games are just lame. But it's still fun to see what's going on.
Fucking Fresno State, I am now 2-1 on the first week of my Bowl picks. The wife is 3-0 mostly cause she actually researches and does not go with her heart.
I posted this on the Ohio Bobcats message board... this encapsulates all I have to say about that ass-plundering to the hands of Troy (fucking Troy!) Spoiler The school's all-time leader in TD passes is at your disposal . This is the guy who has led us to victory each of our eight wins. Your senior QB who bleeds green, in his last game as a Bobcat. And you don't start him? No disrespect to Phil Bates. He's a heck of a runner, but he is no passing threat. The offense is not inventive, and we do not move the ball. The fact that Boo had three TD passes was even more sickening. We had the capability of competing with this team, so I don't want to talk about our defense. I knew Troy was going to score a lot of points, and if Ohio could have beaten them in a shootout, we would have called it a great game. You can say the same thing about the basketball team's 4OT loss to St. Bonaventure. Someone owes Boo a fat apology.
Holy shit when I saw this thread I thought it was about professional bowling. I was about to delete my account but then I read the first post. Carry on.
The Capitol One bowl is by far the best non-bcs bowl in my opinion. I kind of feel bad for the spartans, usually if you can make it through the big ten with one loss you're guaranteed a spot in a bcs bowl, and occasionally even the championship. The Iowa/Missouri game should be good too. I thought the hawkeyes would kill whoever they played, but I didn't think they would be matched against a team ranked that high, and I didn't think they would lose to Minnesota either. I can't help but feel that Nebraska got shafted being placed against Washington. Locker was 4/20 last time they played so I guess Mr. all the tools and none of the performance will get a chance to redeem himself.
What a sloppy game. Chipped shot field goals missed, others blocked, dropped passes all over, turn overs. What a mess. If these teams were out to prove that they really could hang with anyone they sure didn't prove it. Boise St dominated like expected, but that was not a good showing. I'm hoping we see better football down the road once the new year rolls around.
Bad news coming out of Ohio St. Some players allegedly traded autographs for free tatoos. Pryor is currently pleading innocence, but according the announcers during the game tonight he's been implicated. They also said it could be as many as 8-9 starters, which would pretty much mean the buckeyes are fucked for the bowl. I think this would be a real shame, as it's shaping up to a good match up. Here's the story espn has for now:
I thought it was a pretty good game tonight, although both teams showed the effects of having time off. Bahh I have had too much too drink to say anymore.
Terrelle Pryor: "I paid for my tattoos!!" Great knowing as a Spartan fan that these morons get the BCS bid over us.
The fact that they are still going to let these morons play in the Sugar bowl just shows the hypocrisy of the NCAA. And Ohio State is trying to argue that the kids didn't know it was against the rules, even after what happened to A.J. Green. As a Buckeye fan I'm actually excited about the start of next year. Pryor is a terrible quarterback, he just doesn't seem to be smart enough to get past his first read. There's a reason that Dane Sanzenbacher gets most of his catches on third down, he's the slot guy and the primary receiver on those plays. The only reason he looked any good was that Bauserman was fucking terrible as the back up. Hopefully Guiton and Kent Graham's kid will get a decent look in the first four games, and they've also got a kid from Wayne that everyone is pretty excited about. The first real challenge won't be until MSU in week 5 anyway. Herron is pretty awful, too. I feel like you could take any running back in the country and call those plays for him, and get the same or better results. Option plays with Terrel Pryor are going to inflate your yards per carry because you aren't supposed to even touch the ball unless the hole is open. Hopefully Jordan Hall, Carlos Hyde, and Jaamal Berry play well enough that Boom never sees the field again. Adams and Posey will hurt them by not being there. They're really thin at wide receiver and the senior tackles were supposed to be among the best in the country this year.
You're right, but after the Cam Newton "investigation", is anybody surprised at all? Of course they knew what they were doing was wrong. And if this was at a different school that wasn't playing in a BCS game, you can bet they wouldn't be playing in the bowl game. I don't know how old the other four guys they suspended are, but I think this makes Pryor seriously consider skipping his senior year and entering the draft, completely negating the suspension. Wherever he would wind up going this year, his stock would have to fall after sitting out almost half of next year, right? So much for the NCAA and accountability (again)...
I thought the exact same. Almost poo'd. Anybody hear about the Boise State kicker almost hanging himself? He couldn't obviously, because he failed to kick the chair from underneath him.
I would guess Pryor is probably going to go into the draft rather than deal with a five game suspension.
You would think so, but it's been pretty common for kids to stay back for retarded reasons. "Oh, the coaches advised me to stay in school so I guess I shouldn't declare." No shit they advised you to stay in school, they want to keep winning.
