I guess I have been celebrating Visit Your Relatives day all along. MiL has been here for the kiddo's birthday. Can y'all believe that I have a four year old? I'm old AF. You should see the silvers in my crown.

I've been loving this beautiful spring weather. My strawberries are coming in and are so sweet and delicious that I can't bring myself to buy to ones on sale at the store. I'm just ruined for store strawberries.... Same as with tomatoes.
I fixed up a raggedy bed out front yesterday but have so much more to do. I'm going to get serious about removing the rocks and landscaping fabric out there. My kid is old enough follow basic instructions and to help now so we're going to get 'er done. Woo free labor!

Happy weekend y'all. I'm spending this afternoon napping. Hasta man-later.

(In light of the holiday, I looked up sexy step sisters. I don't even know. You can fill in a narrative but I'm not googling another inch!)

I have only mowed the yard once this year. The youngin has been doing it, and it has been amazing. I still have to weedeat, though. I think he could weedeat, I just don't think I would like his technique or the results from it, right now.

Also, right now... the fish, they are not biting. But, I will sit here and drink these IPAs and watch these fishing rods until it is a struggle to walk back home.

Edit; had to fix a major typo, IPAs are affecting my fingers

Went to The Hitching Post for dinner last night (the restaurant from Sideways) and paid $78 for a shitty ribeye. We went there 8 years ago and had a great meal. Guess times have changed.

Now @bewildered , you want to talk about being old, we're in LA for our grandsons first bday party.

Our oldest will be 22 in a couple weeks, and his brother will be 20 in November.

Me? The big 5-0 coming up in a couple weeks. Yikes!

I’m old AF and I have a six month old. I’m exhausted and I always feel like I’m not getting things done that are important, but I’m also depressed because I don’t get to just do nothing.

But he’s the coolest, and the daycare staff loves him.

I have a dog and it’s EXACTLY the same as having a kid. Exactly.

But, does she commandeer the television to watch cartoons that you hate? Didn't think so, best back off thinking it's the same.

She’s nice and enjoys watching what I do.

Just because you’re raising a little demanding hellion, don’t try and put that on me.

    Ahem...

I'm 47 with a not quite five year old, a not quite two year old, a 7-10 year old dog, AND (because I'm a glutton for chaos) a twelve week old Newf puppy that's already bigger than the other dog and almost bigger than the not quite two year old.

Add on top of all this, the not quite five year old had a tonsillectomy a little over a week ago, and the puppy survived parvo last weekend.

Now get off my poop covered lawn or I'll force you to watch Bluey & Ms Rachel a million times.

    We are not the same.

She wants to be outside playing but knows she has to wait until after the race. She was sighing and moaning loudly the entire time.

    which shows do you hate?

I’m a huge fan of Bluey.

I also wish I’d gone into songwriting for cartoons because some of that shit is catchy.

WHOOOAAA WHOOOOAAAA WHOOOOOOOAAA! IT’S TIME TO BUILD!

I watch the video for Imogen Heap’s “Happy Song” about thirty times a week.

I legit like Bluey, but after seeing every episode a dozen times or more, I'm ready for something else. Last fall it was nothing but Paw Patrol.

Truth be told, I'm just glad my oldest is finally "mostly" over Blippi. I don't hate Blippi, but he stated in an interview he wants to be the modern Mr. Rogers. I find he comes across more like and idiotic PeeWee Herman.

Brecky Breck can fuck right off and die...her videos are always "broken" as far as my kids are concerned.

I hate Boonie Bears and a particularly bad version of TMNT that my kid found and likes. Those two shows are just down right shit. Some others that are decent shows, but you just grow to hate them because you just want your kid to pick something new.

This is going to make me sound like an idiot hippy. I don’t turn on the TV until my kids have gone to bed. When we do make an exception it’s to do a family thing together. Once every two weeks we have a movie night. Sometimes we will watch a sports game. It’s never on just because the kids are bored, or I don’t want to pay attention to them.

When the pandemic began we didn’t have a lot to do other than watch TV. I was disturbed by the hold it had on them. It effected their behavior. Their attention. Everything. It was like crack. So we decided no more.

This was extremely difficult at first. It required a lot of lifestyle adjustments for my wife and I. For example I read to them at least an hour per day. We do art projects. We spend a lot of time at the library. I plan outdoor activities every weekend. We go to parks. We go to playgrounds. We play sports. We ride bikes. We garden. They help me cook. They help me pick out recipes and things they want to try.

Most of those activities were TV before the switch. I had to learn how to not be selfish. It made me stop drinking every weekend. Because doing that shit with a hangover is the worst.

I haven’t had to watch Blippie or the Paw Patrol in four years.

You will notice a lot of the words “We” here. It made our family stronger. It made me pay attention to my kids, instead of parking them in front of the TV while I did something. I do get burnt out. But all that is worth it to not have to hear that fucking fire truck song ever again.

Good for y'all! My kid gets a lot of screen time, not as much television as I may have made it sound like, more computer. His problem with television is he will rewind and watch the same scene over and over if he finds it funny.

He's a boss on his computer. He has an immense talent for it, he just figures shit out. He like sandbox type games and building and combining mods, and it's brought out a lot of creativity. For that reason, we don't discourage it too much as long he listens, does his chores and turns it off when we say so to go do something outside. The moment he gives either of us any attitude, it's gone for a while. He doesn't do team sports, just doesn't have that in him. He's into motorsports. He'd never chose gaming inside over riding bikes or atvs, swimming or fishing, so I think he is still getting a proper balance.
