Alright, alright. I am out of hibernation. The days are surging again and things are popping left and right. Did any of you idiots make a New Year's Resolution? Last year I attempted to get 10k steps a day. I did well for awhile but eventually walking in the dark with chance encounters with unsavory types due to the crack house down the street got old. However, in the last year, that house was condemned and our winter is exceptionally mild. Once I crank out this soap I am behind on, I will try to fulfill that resolution again. TGIF! It is chilly and rainy but not even freezing. We have been spending so much time outside. Stay safe and warm this weekend. @Misanthropic, do your Thursday nights continue in the winter?
Neither cold, nor rain nor gloom of night will keep us from our appointed beer. Actually, the last couple of months I’ve only hit a couple of garage nights. Illness, family obligations, and my buddy who hosts it going away for a couple of weeks have all put a serious dent in our blowing-off-steam time. Last night we had a mobile garage night. Six of us went to see Queensryche, with booze and food beforehand. The show didn’t run late so a few of us were back at the garage by 10:30, and we carried on until after midnight. Taking off of work today was a good idea. On the resolution front, it’s the same as the last 20 years- lose weight, get back to the outdoor activities I’ve let lapse, and maybe, perhaps, drink a bit less. My track record of success at most of these isn’t great.
Until after midnight? Jesus Christ, I’m thinking about going to bed at 8:30 anymore. Which is depressing because it feels like just yesterday I was getting home at 4am and making it to work three hours later.
My meeting ran long today so I did something I haven't done in years. I hit up McDonalds. Got some fries, a double cheeseburger (no onions because onions shouldn't exist) and a spicy McChicken sandwich. They say that once you don't eat fast food for a while, that you find it disgusting. They are wrong. It was fucking glorious. I almost came in my pants. Now I'm celebrating the memory of that lunch with some barley pops and packing for a weekend in Monterey. Supposed to be in the low 70s.
Very envious, I took my son to the Sacramento Kings game Friday night. On the way home between Sacramento and Stockton I ran into a Fog bank with Less than 10 yards visibility. Been a long time since I have had to brake from 65 to 30 without seeing anything. I then looked at my son and said "We need to go to Monterey this weekend"
Well, this weekend went to shit in a hurry. Got a call last night that a young man at work died in a solo motorcycle accident over the weekend. Been with the company right out of high school and had some family through marriage at the shop. Won't get into all his personal details but the kid was dealt a shitty hand in life and was trying to make the best of it. Very somber day and a few employees have sons that aren't too much younger than him and you could tell it hit them especially hard. Just sad.
It is -20°C here right now, and my car isn't in the garage because I have too much shit in there for it to fit. The door locks froze, and the touch screen didn't work. -20 can fuck right off today.
At least it's clear and sunny, so there's that. We've also got a bunch of snow showing up starting tonight. It's a cold, blowy, snowy week ahead. I need more Bailey's for my coffee.
I’m also feeling sorry for myself about this bullshit forecast, and for my future self for the insane heating bill this month.
This Saturday is forecasted to have a windchill of as low as -45 here. I'm wondering if I should go skiing...
However, cozying up to the fireplace with a few strong drinks after such skiing, is very pleasant. For this reason I tend to focus more on the apres-ski portion of the program.
