Somebody's going to be having a white Christmas. Unless something drastically changes in the next 2 weeks, it won't be us. My town had record breaking highs of 70F last week. Merry early Christmas! I have a few gifts to wrap and some packages to mail, but otherwise, I am done for the season. Christmas dinner will just be us three so no need to cook a blowout feast. The winter solstice is around the corner. The days will begin waxing soon. Oh, and we can't forget about FESTIVUS. Air your grievances, then very carefully, put a clock in a bag and nail it to the wall. Wishing you much comfort and joy.
It’s been like 20 degrees colder than average here the past couple of weeks with good snow cover on the ground. Really makes the lead up to Christmas nicer than the brown and drab that’s been more the norm the past few years. And then for two days this week it’s gonna be in the high to mid-40’s. Probably just enough to melt the snow before freezing again. The cold has sucked, but going back and forth between that and warmer sucks worse in my opinion. But more than that, I really just want a white Christmas for a change.
It is currently 14F here. Both a warm snap and precipitation are inbound at the end of the week. If the precipitation arrives first, we'll get snow; if the warmth arrives first, we'll get disastrous rain. Everyone has their fingers crossed.
I was recently introduced to the Norwegian concept of hygge - embracing the change of seasons by getting cozy inside. The fire has been going, the days are dim anyhow, and the cookies and yummy foods have been flowing. The Christmas tree sparkles. If we had snow outside, it sould be perfect. I discovered a new favorite Christmastime fruit: persimmons. These things almost taste like melon.
For me it’s been about cooking and having the stove/oven going. Been braising beef, making chicken soup, roasting pork… everything’s been all nice and toasty and the house has been smelling great.
Man, winter is here, for sure. As much as we had a really mild fall where it stayed nice until way later than normal, once winter hit, it seems to have hit hard. We've had a fair bit of snow, and it's now -10. I really have to get the garage cleaned up so I can fit the car in there to keep it warm. It took me over 10 minutes to de-ice it this morning.
What size and make/model is that range? I'm in the market for a new gas stove and that looks pretty close to what I'm looking for. Plus I know you wouldn't be a man that goes cheap on an appliance you use so often.
My donkey didn't appreciate my happiness. I don't know if it was the STI or the penicillin injection that upset it.
