Well, back to the grind folks. How was the first full week of the new year for ya? It's National Houseplant Day. I dedicate this thread to this tenacious thing. She moved cross country with me and survived a bad case of root rot. A Christmas cactus blooming on Christmas. How are y'all down south surviving the winter weather? It's barely been freezing around here at night and super rainy. I've been walking the dog at the end of the day in the dark lately to reach 10k steps, and it's actually been really nice getting out there. It's refreshing and private, I get to smell what everyone is cooking and laundering, the nighttime sounds are peaceful... and I only had to reroute due to a tweaker sighting once so far! New stuff for the new year. TGIF!!
We hit the ground running hard at work... it was one of the most intense and dense weeks of the last year. Got a lot of shit done, made great progress, but it was a grind. I plan on going to bed early tonight, and sleeping in tomorrow. My only hope is that the dog abides.
Oh... and it's a constant week of snow for the next week. Today I threw a hunk of meat on the smoker at 10am and let it cook while I worked... it was very nicely done by 6... made up some creamy garlic noodles, with some smoked top sirloin, and a bottle of wine, and holy shit is life good. I will say that I went to the hassle of finding and importing some "W Sauce" and used it to prep the roast... and holy shit is it amazing. Worth the hassle.
It is 30 and raining and I would like to die. And before I hear it I challenge y’all to walk around in a suit in 100 degrees. It’s funny how you adapt.
Hopefully not a harbinger of things to come. It’s been a real mofo. My mouth is looking like it’ll be tinged with cold sores soon, all from stress and lack of decent sleep the past couple of nights. Although at work one of my kids got on the bus this afternoon and, without warning, gave me a hug. He started out as a real pain in my ass but has been doing better, so it was not only welcome but a sign of progress.
Stupid ski app didn't track my runs. As a mildly-OCD completionist type, I'm quite annoyed that I will have to re-do several pretty steep chutes in order to get that coveted "163/163 Trails Skied"
We only have a few houseplants at the moment. Of the three or four, my favorite is my grandmother’s Christmas cactus: I don’t remember when she gave it to us, but she passed in 2010 so we’ve had it for quite awhile. For the longest time we kept it on our fireplace and seldom watered it. It’s a cactus after all, right? Then we realized that, duh, it’s not that kind of cactus. We also moved it to that window which faces west and it’s flourished since. I’ve cut it back several times which has made us much more full than when we first got it. We got about an inch or so of fresh, fluffy snow overnight which makes things look nicer outside. Especially when looking out from inside a warm room.
We got about 4 inches of snow. We had a blast for a few hours on the mini jeep, pulling a snow tube behind and just drifting around in it. Then, a neighbor with a tractor thinks he needs to do the whole neighborhood a favor and scrape the road, even though we all have vehicles capable of getting out of the hood. All he did was make a big mess and pile up snow banks in front of people's driveways, causing more problems if someone had to leave. Fucker ruined the fun today.
Last summer my daughter scored a great internship at an aerospace company, working in a department that directly aligns with her college major. Things went so well that they’ve asked her to work for them over winter break, as well as interning again this summer. She continued working a couple of weeks ago, and she’s slowly been getting tons of work related mail in very thick packages. She hadn’t been expecting anything, she’s an intern after all, so she only started opening them a week in. It seems that someone in HR has entered her as a full time employee instead of an intern. She received her medical insurance card and retirement fund information today. So here she is, no degree yet, 21 years old, and she is officially a full time employee at an aerospace firm, making 63K a year with full benefits. We’re all having a good laugh. Maybe if she keeps quiet she can skip the whole degree thing and keep working.
Tell her to submit her application for retirement. Maybe they'll pay her a pension and she won't even have to go to work.
Ever spend half the day thinking you shit yourself? I put my jacket down and sat at my desk this morning and smelled dookie. Now I showered this morning before I left for work. Checked my shoes for dog poo. Went to the bathroom and took my pants and underwear off to examine. My undies and base layer long John’s were fresh washed but my jeans weren’t. Still nothing. Even covertly changed desk chairs because we used to have a 600lb lady with a body odor problem that had stuck to her chair and I thought someone found it and switched with mine as a joke. Turned out it was my hunting jacket I wore today. I had hung it on my cubicle right next to my head. I must have sat in something when I was out hunting this weekend. Fun times.
Agreed. I've smelled random shit in the past and wondered if I stepped in dog crap or something but never thought "Man, it stinks like poo but my soles are clean. Maybe I shit myself?"
I can honestly say that I have never spent multiple hours uncertain as to whether or not I had shit myself. I have always viewed that as a very clear and identifiable event.
I've never spent more than several minutes thinking I shit myself. You go to the restroom and get the answers you need. Then you either celebrate for having not shit yourself, or you figure out how to proceed if you do find shit. You do not stick your hand in your ass crack and pull it out for a sniff. I don't care if you have seen someone at Walmart doing just that, they are wrong.
