I find they usually pick you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When I got Zoe from the breeders, I was in a pen with 40 other puppies all running around in straw. Zoe was the only one that came to me, sat at my feet, and looked up at me... interested in me while chaos surrounded us.

That was it, "I'll take her."

    She's come a long way!

Oh, this I know. Buddy picked me and Piggy was a stray fleabit older puppy we brought home, but she immediately suction cupped herself to my husband. I don't know what will happen this time. I believe in adopting an unwanted animal so I won't be purchasing from any breeders, reputable or backyard. I just find it super challenging to be in the shelter. It just instantly shatters my heart.

I'm really sorry about your girl. Losing a beloved pet is one of the worst things we can endure. I swear, I've grieved more for our boy in the past year than I have for some human family.

To your point, I agree, it takes a special person to be able to do that job. When we took Cooper to Cornell, I was a mess when we arrived, still hopeful he'd be okay, and a mess when we went back to get his ashes a week later. They were patient and kind throughout the ordeal.

I've seen a lot of shit, but I still couldn't do that job.

It's been over a year and I'm still in the "never again" phase. My wife tells me all the time, when I'm ready we can get a new companion. My social media feed is filled with images from shelters near and far. All of those adorable puppies looking for a home and some slightly older ones catch my eye too. I see them, it makes me smile, and then it makes me immediately sad.

The neighbor stopped by and mentioned that he has a feral black cat hiding under his shed and a very young kitten inside the shed. I gave him a can of cat food for the kitten and some treats to try and lure the mother cat out. I may be fostering or adopting a little black kitten and I am not upset about that.

Mom’s birthday was last week so she got a bunch of flowers.

Last night she thought she’d share them with Zoe.

She knows my routine, after i finish brushing my teeth and i go into my bedroom, she will wait at the door for me to tell her to come in and get on the bed.
