Same here. Two wonderful weeks off.

I’ve been doing a low-carb, high protein diet plan since August but going to allow myself a little leniency now and then. Mostly Christmas Eve and Day. I have some of my favorite, local pumpkin ale waiting as a Christmas treat and welcome change from low-carb beer, aka “beer flavored water”.

I had a Dr appt and bloodwork this week, which was all solidly in the green.

“hey doc, can I let loose a bit over xmas?”
    “yep, go nuts”

    Dr’s orders and all that.

I'm at my last holiday market of the season. I had a friend ask once if I ever get tired of people walking past and laughing at a stupid sign I have up. There's some stupid rhyming phrase on my 'oops' soap bin.

Just had an 80 year old man walk passed, read it, and chuckle.

    Nope, never gets old.

That stupid rhyming phrase popped into my brain one night and got thrown on a sign. Chuckles on the left, chuckles on the right, I've been sharing chuckles almost all my life.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy... I thought he knew better than to actually fight anyone these days. He was never good to begin with.

    Eat shit, faggot*.

*Because he says that sex with women is gay. He's a very confused "man."

My doctor told me you have to have one day a week to enjoy a “forbidden” food. The nurse practitioner I see at the weight loss clinic is more rigid, but her entire job is to help me be as successful as I can be ( and I’ve been doing really well ).

But I told her that this is my favorite time of the year and the only time when I get foods that people like my mother in law make that I love. She said, “Well remember, the holidays are about people, not food.”

“Yeah but it’s the food that those people like that make it the holidays,” I told her. “And someday when those people are no longer here, their special dishes won’t be either. So I intend to enjoy those foods, in moderation, while they’re here. And if it means I lose a couple less pounds, I’m good with that.”

She laughed and admitted it was a solid argument. But also I’m taking Wegovy, which really helps me avoid overeating or drinking more than two beers. That last part sucks sometimes though.

Can confirm, bought a Costco chicken today and made the base stock in under an hour and it's great. Not making the full consomme this time because I need the stock for wedding soup that I'm making for Christmas dinner, but will probably try it next time.

I have one of the coffee strainers he used showing up in a couple of days.

I haven’t tried it yet but there is a Costco chicken in the fridge waiting for tomorrow.

I was also intrigued by his “cooking from frozen” episode. Quite interesting, and I usually cook my sous vide from frozen normally.

The turkey from frozen is a whole step up, especially with the “kitchen drill”. lol

Well, I've taken the rest of the week off, and there is just something about that first finger of holiday whisky that hits so, so right.

How wrong is it that I'm now glad that I don't have to take Zoe to camp at 7am and pick her up at 4 because they're closing a few days over xmas, so that I can now day drink over the holidays?

I say "not wrong at all, merry fucking xmas".

Yesterday I drank some real beers ( Yuengling ) at and then came home to enjoy a couple cocktails at home while the family was all here. My stomach didn’t like that, so the pumpkin ales bought for consumption today will have to wait.

This year has been an adjustment for us, our younger son who lives here still is working this evening and his older brother, who lives about two hours away now, is working tomorrow evening. So he’ll have to leave tomorrow here afternoon to get home and catch a nap before work.

It was also likely our last Christmas Eve at my in-laws, as they’re planning on putting their home on the market come spring and downsizing.

Change is inevitable and rather than dwell on “what used to be” I’m focused on welcoming the new and positive, like my own family growing, with open arms.

Wherever you are, however you’re spending this evening, Merry Christmas to all my fellow idiots. I hope it’s a good one.

Merry Christmas everyone. I hope you’re all finding your own ways to enjoy the holiday.

It’s been an odd Christmas season here. I’m now getting over being sick for the second time in a month ( flu then norovirus) so my holiday schedule has been way more compressed than usual. But it’s forced me to slow down, sleep more and not burn the candle at both ends. So I simultaneously feel lousy but better than I usually do this time of year.
