I bought myself a Christmas present with a threaded barrel. Patiently waiting for the suppressor tax stamp to go away January 1st to complete it.
Meanwhile, in Canada, if I get caught with a suppressor, it's hard core, pound-me-in-the-ass prison time.

I'm pretty sure that will not be the case for me. I did post that under the assumption I will be a allowed to own one, if I fill out the ATF form accurately. I don't know why I always let the $200 tax stop me from going thru the process and buying one, I just did. It will be a cool thing to have.
Im looking into them too. I hear some gun shops will sell you the silencer, they keep it until the paper work goes through (you can shoot it at their range), and have been delaying paperwork until after the 1st so you don't have the $200 dollar tax. Best to get it now as the wait time is bound to go back to the crazy 18 month BS of a few years ago. Ive never gotten one but Id like a dedicated one for .22lr, .45, and a 762 I have. Silencers are one of those, getting fucked on prices because what else you going to do? There are 2-500$ pistol ones Ive seen that get good reviews. It's retarded how some of the big name ones will be $1100+ for a fucking threaded tube with baffles. Gun laws are such bullshit. Relative got 30 days for reckless op and met a meth dealer in jail who got caught running like 30lbs. He had an illegally modified machine gun on him in the car and the feds didn't even charge him with it since the drug case was so strong. Modifying and possession. Here I am playing by the rules like a sucker.
I’ve always wondered what the objections to suppressors or silencers are. They’re not silent at all, but from what I understand they can make firing safer on the ears. And they negatively impact aim. So basically they aren’t going to be very helpful if you’re looking to kill people in secret. Do I have any of that wrong?
Misconceptions about what a suppressor is and is not based on decades of seeing Hollywood misportray them in movies. Then letting those misconceptions run wild in their fears.
No, you're correct on all counts. The only suppressed gun I've fired is a 22-45 Ruger. They are anything but silent, or even really quiet. Especially the first 1 to 3 shots, when the suppressor is cold. It probably lowered the 22-45 report down to something like a nail gun after it warmed up.
I bought a 9mm with a threaded barrel. I will probably buy a barrel for other 9mm, so they both can be fitted with the suppressor. I will probably get one for my .556, eventually. That's pretty much all I have currently that I would want to use a suppressor with. Future firearm purchases may favor guns that are suppressor ready. You're right, some are ridiculously priced when functional suppressors can be made out of oil filters or stuff from the plumbing aisle.
Before you run out and buy one for every firearm you own, you can use one made for a larger round on a weapon chambered for something smaller (i.e. made for a .45 on a .40, .22lr, etc) and it will work. Maybe not as well as one made for that specific size, but it will still make a noticeable reduction in noise.
Not that I have a gun to buy one for, but they are illegal in my state. I’ve gone shooting with friends enough to get the concept, and to think it’s ridiculous that they are banned.
I once shot a buddy’s suppressed 9. I think it was a Glock 19. All I remember was the powder blow-back in my face. The lack of sound was noticeable but I found it a little more challenging to aim because the suppressor blocked the front sight. Fun experience though.
That is something I need to keep in mind when shopping. Some of them list the multiple calibers they'll work with. The Ruggued Obsidian 9 is at the top of the list now, but there will be more research and shopping between now and the new year. Looks like it will cover any thing smaller than .360, and can be shortened if the need arises. https://www.ruggedsuppressors.com/obsidian9
What's everyone's thoughts on the Sig MCX Spear? Can't get an AR because I live in the People's Republic of Massachusetts, but that's the next best thing, I think?
Yeah... with a 10-round fixed mag, limits on any cool attachments and a required fin grip for no reason. Can't get an AR, also known in the Boston Globe as "Assault Rifle 15," because school shooters like them. Trying to make sense of the gun laws here is futile.
I actually had to google the monstrosity myself. It’s to prevent the gun from having a usable pistol grip. I assume the thinking is that a pistol grip makes the rifle more “deadly” in some way. It looks like you have to hold it more like a traditional hunting rifle with a fin grip. I hate it.
It's never too late to move to a state that offers freedom. I have never seen one of those. Not only am I am not really a SIG fan, but I'm a sort by price shopper. That firearm is so far beyond the price that I limit myself to, that I didn't even know it existed. That is something I will have to deal with, and common with suppressed pistols with blowback actions, apparently. Might get myself a shiesty and, of course, wear glasses.
