Lol. Glad I don't live in NY, though. Normally I'd call them retards for electing that moron, but if the alternative was the guy who kills old people and rapes his staffers, guess he's the better pick. No idea about the other guy that wears the berets though. Trump flailing about it is depressing and funny as usual.
So what's the story with Mamdani? All I know is that he's DSA, but not full retard and that a lot of people on the left would be honored to suck his dick, but the reasons for the zeal or why he's good/bad for NYC escape me.
As a Chicago resident, I watched with interest as another young, hip, progressive minority guy went up against an older candidate who had a lot more (albeit terrible) experience. Hopefully NYC has better luck.
I don’t think it’s so much so that he lumps himself in with the DSA crowd. He doesn’t deny it, but he campaigned on a platform that meant a lot to a lot of younger New Yorkers who are struggling financially. Also, they’ve had a string of dipshit mayors and governors who don’t give a shit about them. Also in NYC, you don’t get punished electorally for tacking left like you do elsewhere. He’s only getting so much attention because he’s the mayor of NYC. To me, the bigger story of the election is the absolute shellacking the gop received in other races around the country. Some smaller town school boards completely flipped. The book banners in my area got ousted. The Dems made inroads in Mississippi. Prop 50 passed in California. Virginia flipped to a dem governor. Relying purely on culture war bullshit while the country suffers economically seems to be a bad strategy. Telling people how great the economy is while it’s clearly not is a great way to energize voters against you. The gop completely abdicated all responsibility of checks and balances against the president and just sit around yelling about trans people and dei, and illegals. Also, the disgusting footage of the way ICE agents are treating people and destroying communities for sure isn’t helping. They way they told everyone they were only after criminals who are illegal was horseshit. There’s videos of school children being dragged out of classrooms and babies in car seats in ice vehicles. Along with people being snatched up outside of the courtroom on the way to their hearings. And the gop sits around and says and does nothing.
(Mike Johnson runs in and grabs the podium mic) when he says they’re doing nothing, he means the Democrats. The Democrats, doing nothing. Write that down.
He needs to just burst out of the Closet like the Incredible Hulk and just get it over with already. How is it possible to be in more denial about your sexuality than Lindsay Graham??
https://www.kqed.org/news/12062796/...ears-defining-generations-of-democratic-power Pelosi’s out. Thank the fuck Christ. Hope Schumer follows suit.
She's "not seeking reelection," which means she's not out YET. Just like Mitch-fucking-McConnell. Why don't these dried up mummies quit right the fuck now? They've had DECADES to prepare for it.
Probably because theres a year left in her term. And to resign right now, I'm not sure of their special election rules in California. But it would give time for people to have a proper campaign. Also, if she's out, its one less house vote. And with the way Johnson is doing things, he won't seat the winner of that special election anyway. Better to try and win back the house, and get a new speaker.
I feel like Pelosi is a weird avatar for the old-politician-hate sentiment. She stepped down from leadership years ago, she's now stepping down from office, at no point was she ever out of it or ineffective (like Feinstein was), she represents a safe district, and House terms are short. I'm much more worried about old-ass Senators in competitive states, or folks that drop dead in office.
