My friends have started a betting pool to see how long it lasts. Their money is on the dog. But in other news, she loved it. Spent almost 2 hours running around in it and lying down in it last night. Didn’t want to come inside, and stayed out on her own for extended periods of time, which is not normal for her. (she usually is my shadow and must be with me at all times)
Our large lab mix used to destroy wading pools by pawing at them - he looked like he was going at a speed bag, only on the side of the wading pools. We bought him the same kind of galvanized metal feed tub, a little smaller than that one and oblong, but same idea. He fucking loved it, could paw at the sides until he was exhausted. It was absolutely scratched to shit on the inside - it looked like someone took an angle grinder to it - but it lasted his entire life.
The puppy generally doesn't just lay and snuggle, she will if you are petting her. But the past week if i am laying down on the couch she will lay down with you for about the length of a show.
Took Cooper (along with wifey) in the van to Salida last weekend for some camping. He's still worn out.
Finn will now wade into the water without coercion or treats. He will get on this mat and let you take him to deeper water, then stand there and look at the people and dogs playing around him. He has not actually swam yet, but I think he will, eventually.
We take our Orange Cat with us everywhere because he pouts or whines when we're gone But hey man, whatever floats your goat
Finn would scream his head off if we took the dogs somewhere and left him alone. Yesterday, we got on the boat, took him and the dogs up river to town. There, he walked on a leash just like the dogs. We stopped and got milkshakes and took them back to the boat to eat them. It was a handful, holding their leashes and trying to carry these milkshakes. It was a fun trip, but we probably won't do that again. We also passed Goat Island, pictured below, which they say used to be inhabited by goats until someone, or a flood, took them off. There have not been goats on it since at least the 1970s, so it may be bullshit story people around here tell.
We've likely lost our cat, Jack. He hasn't returned home in 8 days, and I've lost hope. He was born in the animal shelter where I worked and still volunteer. He spent his first four months in a small cage before winning us dog people over. He was awesome, a straight killer. He'd spend 95% of his time outside, murdering small animals, come inside for treats and few cuddles before meowing to be freed again. We didn't even have to keep a litter box inside, because he simply didn't want to be confined in the house. The neighbors loved him because he kept the squirrels out of bird feeders and mice out of their homes and out buildings. He is irreplaceable, and I'll never own another cat because they will not be half the cat Jack was. If I had to guess what got him, I'd go with coyotes that have been showing up on cameras around the neighborhood.
