All children are too stupid, immature and emotional for truly responsible firearms ownership. It falls on parents to teach them, slowly, all points of gun safety and care, the consequences for ignoring or forgetting that knowledge, including that gun violence is almost never the answer to anything. I used to hide from the school bus in the mornings until after my parents went to work, I'd stay home and shoot dad's twelve gauge because the key was left in the gun cabinet at all times. I was in 4th grade. I was an idiot and so was dad for leaving the key like that.

They were told they needed to get their son into counseling within the next 48 hours. They did not want to take him out of school then and left without him. A few hours later, he pulled the gun from his backpack and started shooting. When news got out of the shooting, the dad called 911 to report his gun missing and the mother texted the son "don't do it."
