Is a funny movie impossible to create anymore? Somebody needs to throw caution to the wind and bring back scenes even one tenth as funny as this:

I thought it was hilarious that the one Farrelly brother went on to direct a Best Picture winning film and they tried to #metoo him and Cameron Diaz came to his side to defend his whipping out his cock on the set of his gross out movies.

So HOLY FUCK. Quite the accident at today’s season-ending F1 race.

It’s absolutely amazing the driver is alive.

Major impact, HUGE fire. And all he has is burnt hands and ankles.

Amazing how far safety has come.

2 years ago, without the halo, he would have had his head crushed in by the safety barrier.

I could not believe it when he jumped out relatively unhurt. The interviews after the race were very telling.

The fact that they didn't go back to or replay any of the crash footage until a solid 10 minutes after it happened told everyone it was a serious fucking crash... once they saw him out and in the medical car, then they started broadcasting the crash footage and analyzing it. It took my brain a while to process the fact that the front half of the car was ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BARRIER. The front half went through, and he had to climb out, on fire, between the 2 guard rails.

Now time for some good news...

Around March or so, I got a call from a friend of mine who had to let one of his staff go due to COVID spending freezes and sales drops. I hired him in, and then we got acquired by a 4k+ company that just did an IPO. Dude's been a solid performer and a great hire.

Got a package delivered yesterday from him... it was a box full of specialty booze. He has a penchant for really good rum and whiskey, and shared a half-dozen of his favourite bottles.

I called him and said, "dude, you should not have done that... it's appreciated, but really... makes me feel uncomfortable".

He laughed and said, "please, accept it with my gratitude... I went from losing my job at the worst possible time, as my extended family was having medical issues and living with me, and wondering how the hell I was going to make my next mortgage payment... to now being able to pay off my mortgage due to the acquisition."

I'm now enjoying some really nice specialty 15 year old rum as a result.

Despite all the ugly shit out there, there are still some good stories.

Congratulations to @Juice and his wife. Who wants to chip in to get his wife an "I'm pregnant, if you want to keep your genitals wear a mask around me" t-shirt.

Anyone pick up a sale item now that holiday deals are going on?

We've been holding off on upgrading the TV for several years. The prices on the 4ks have come down to a manageable number so we will have an awesome new TV in the downstairs media room which is currently under construction.

I've been working diligently getting that space upgraded. I ripped out all the nasty carpet and trim and had our neighbor help us with the new flooring installation. I swapped out all the light fixtures for new ones and now am working on the trimwork. I don't mind the cutting and such but fuck me, I hate cutting in paint lines after caulking. I fuckered that part up righteously and I had my husband tape off everything in one room so I can get it done right. I put in so much work thus far, it can't look slopping on this last step.

It's gonna look so good when it's done. And now hubs is talking about applying for some transfer in another state. Awesome sauce...

@bewildered in my experience, the holiday “deal” TVs are usually garbage. I also suspect that specific, low-quality models are produced explicitly for those types of sales. I bought one a few years ago and looked like shit compared to the plasma TV I already had that was 6 years older. I would spend a little extra $ and research them.

I just want TVs to be dumb again. Give me an HDMI input and the lowest lag you can manage. I don't need it running its own god damn spyware or some shit.

Agreed. I don't want a smart TV. I can plug a Roku stick in and make my TV smart, and then when I don't trust Roku or want to upgrade, I can buy something different.

Whenever I get asked about TVs, I recommend that they shut off any smart features on the TV and buy a Roku (or Apple TV or Fire TV, or Google TV - honestly, it doesn't matter). My father-in-law argued that the TCL TV he found with Roku installed was cheaper than the Roku stick + a similar TV, and I shrugged and said he should do what he wants... only for 24 hours later some security researchers to publish a vulnerability on TCL TVs, that was going unpatched because the company refused to respond.

I hate smart TVs. I just helped my parents set up a Roku-powered smart TV over the weekend. It flat-out refused to do anything until we registered it online with a Roku account. Why the fuck do I need a Roku account to display what is plugged into the HDMI port?
