Two weeks into the school year and my daughters high school has “ only” had two confirmed cases. But now dozens of kids are in quarantine, one of whom is on my daughters field hockey team. If that kid tests positive the ripple effects are going to be ugly.

Saw on the news today a kid saying, "well, we caught the single case in time to isolate him, so it'll be fine."

Guys... GUYS.... everything is on a 2 week delay! If you isolated him today, he should have really been isolated 2 weeks ago to be effective.

Instead, ShockedPikachu over the next 2 weeks as the number rise for some reason! "We had no way of knowing this..."

OH FUCK OFF... Everyone involved in this stuff has been warning of the second wave for months, and it's happening. Solving for X, it's the stupid people who "hope for the best".

We have a friend of the family who has 2 kids in public school, dating a new guy in her life who has 2 university kids. Needless to say we will not be seeing her or her kids/family until well after a vaccine is out and proven effective. She seems confused as to why we're planning a small Thanksgiving dinner without her... inviting close members of the family who we all know are taking this shit seriously and staying the fuck away from people.

was talking to a friend today who's daughter is in college. She was saying next semester will be better when they can all go back to class and not do this distance learning stuff. I reminder her that's IF there's a next semester, and that at current we're still looking at distance learning being the same since nothing has changed to indicate otherwise. Apparently I was being pessimistic and not looking on the bright side.

I thought not making unreasonable assumptions about things that have not happened yet, and which have no medical or scientific basis for happening in the next few months, was called being "realistic" but I guess to each their own.

I love how people have not even started to think about how a vaccine will even work... so yay! Jan 1 we get a viable vaccine! Then what? The logistics to getting it manufactured, distributed, administered, monitored, etc, is not an overnight "DONE" event.

I can't help but think it'll be at least 6 months after a vaccine is available until it has a solid impact on daily life.

I'm giving it a year. I think it's reasonable to believe that a year from now there will be some noticeable and substantial improvement in society, at least in the US, in regard to COVID (assuming trump isn't re-elected). The whole idea of mass gatherings like packed stadiums and concerts I don't think will return for quite some time, but I think that this time next year it's reasonable to see things like public schools back to normal with some measures still in place, restaurants near their former capacity but again with still some safety measures.

There's a whole segment of people who are in that "we can't do this forever" and "at what point is it just not worth it?" mindset, and I think that's the dangerous stuff that keeps dragging this out. 200k deaths in the US alone is never worth it. At the peak, a 9/11 every day was not worth it. It will never be, and it never was.

I know a few people like this. Two really crave the social interaction and ability to shop freely and the other is a single guy with PTSD and depression who was really hurting from the isolation.

We are homebodies so are totally ok with sitting at home, especially eith the new baby. However, the longevity of this thing has me asking questions to our pediatrician such as ''at what age does lack of social interaction with people outside of caregivers effect social development?'' My kid won't be a baby forever and it makes me sad that I cannot share babyhood with anyone except hubs. I told him it was like a fucking monkeys paw wish. We wanted to be left alone for a good month or 6 weeks to recover and figure out how to care for a baby ourselves and we get this.

Don't forget now, when we get a vaccine that's been properly tried and vetted and approved (by the Europeans, not our FDA), you'll still need to deal with the antivax contingent.

Here's wondering if those vaccine bracelets from Contagion (amazingly prophetic movie, go watch it again) would be accepted here. We see how it's gone with just masks.

You were built for pandemic life. I knew it before you said that you hadn't left your residence for anything but food.

I sincerely hope your mind and body finds peace someday, you find a way to overcome your depression.

My sons’ high school is back to all online learning due high school parties. 160+ kids quarantined related to said parties, the district just shut down all of the high schools to “reasses.”

Online school is going easier now that the teachers are being forced to be consistent. A couple teachers were breaking down the material and assignments for the kids daily while others just posted 30 assignments with no due dates. I had taken over determining coursework for the day and my kids were caught up and doing fine but I can guess that not all kids have that. Now they have an assignments tab that has all due work listed. Before that info could’ve been in 4 various places, it pissed me off every morning remembering where that particular teacher posted shit.

We have had one kid test positive in our school board district so far. That consists of around 130 schools. Here it’s hygiene first, learn later. I’ve seen prisons with less monitoring.

Yeah, and they will need live virus cultures for the vaccines. That includes the management, climate control and all of the other operational considerations that go into making that work alone.

I can see comparisons to yellow stars worn by Jews in Nazi Germany; being forced to wear the bracelet IS JUST THE SAME!!

I also see a black market for bracelets.

I’m interested in whether some proof of vaccination will be required for international travel once vaccines become universally available.

Parents here keep asking “Are the schools clean? Are the schools safe?”

I can say that they are safe as the clueless Provincial government has allowed them to be. My question to these parents is:

If you’re so concerned about hygiene, why does every public basketball court I drive by have twenty kids on it, all of them hitting each other in the mouth with their dirty elbows and shoulders? What is the point of any of this extra effort, when you won’t do your part?

Check your own fucking rats before looking for a scapegoat. The schools are being responsible, YOU are the unhygienic idiot.

Yeah, those parents would be shocked to know that their precious little darlings have to be told repeatedly to put their fucking mask back in, covering their nose.

Infected students and or staff have been a daily occurrence this week across our district. Anyone with half a brain would be making child care arrangements now instead of waiting til schools are closed again.

It’s not wrong to laugh at this. Point and laugh. Make an example of these worthless humps. Ironic to have the name Tenpenny and not have any common cents. His kind is a dime a dozen.

I’m sorry, that’s mean. My deepest condolences to all the undeserving people that this piece of shit infected.

Perhaps this will become quick-accepted the way same sex marriage was— soon, EVERYONE in America will at least know somebody with COVID, and then they will get begrudgingly forced into actual reality.

Now the Missouri governor who downplayed the virus and refused to mandate masks has COVID. Excuse me while I snicker like Muttley.

yeah it’s not wrong, all those idiots can fuck off. A few days ago another friend lost a loved one, another “excess death,” lack of resources in hospital with covid taking up everything and people dying who ordinarily would likely have stayed alive.

I’ve lost track of the number of friend and especially friends of close friends and family who have died the last month or so. Those covid deniers can go fuck themselves with a splintered telephone pole.

I'm not a denier but maybe it's the circles we run in. I can list on one hand the people that I know personally who have contracted it. And out of that circle; one guy I haven't seen in 10-12 years, friends parents I've met once at wedding and live in TX and guy at my wife's work that I've met once.
