Positive numbers is our county continue to climb, currently at 66 today and more expected. That’s higher than during the peak back in March and April.

A former co-worker of my wife tested positive. We were told their workplace isn’t testing her co-workers because they are all very essential personnel ( health care, hint hint ). If they test positive, they won’t be able to staff the department.

It’s hearsay I know, but if true is scary.

I've heard the same thing around my place as well... reduced testing due to the fear of getting positive results.

Meanwhile, all the testing facilities are full and turning people away daily now due to the students going back to university, etc. They even found a kid who threw a frosh party after testing positive.

This is not going to go well.

The senior leader of the effort here tested positive.

I got tested yesterday, awaiting results.

They are pretending this hasn't killed 200,000 people in six months, including 5500 in LA.

I wouldn't mind it if 2020 took a fucking break.

    Nope.

I was gonna put in for a personal day at the end of October. I’m gonna wait, because the way things are going schools will be closed anyway.

Hey so before we jump headfirst into this "herd mentality" plan, I'm curious: is the science actually *settled* on COVID survivor antibodies and immunity to reinfection? Like we know for an absolute fact that if you've caught it you cannot catch it again? I certainly hope so, before we gamble the lives of millions on "if we all get it then no one else can catch it".

Four local schools reporting positive or exposed to positive students or staff, one whole class and teacher quarantined. School hasn’t been in session a full week for most. I wish I had a buck for every student of all age groups I have to constantly tell “put your mask back on.”

200 employees at another local health care facility exposed, some positive tests returning.

A local woman who works in health care who is supposed to be quarantined for a positive test was allegedly seen partying at a local bar this past weekend.

People here are not taking this remotely serious and if we’re not seeing the start of a complete shit show in the next couple weeks I’ll be shocked.

My daughter shared a short video from the college she attended. The students were offered foam noodles to measure social distancing. The video showed students walking around campus whacking each other with them.

I'm sorry, but that's just a dumb idea to implement with college kids, or any kids for that matter. Of course they were whacking each other with them. Hell, I would've brought mine back to my apartment and turned it into a beer bong.

Some old shitbag neighbors of ours (I have endless stories about how unpleasant they were) are hardcore Trumpers, and believe that Coronavirus is a fake liberal conspiracy to get The Orange Anointed One out of office. The father posts all the time about how people wearing masks are sheep, it's all made up by the liberal media, etc.

I'm not sure how they square that with the fact that the president acknowledges COVID-19 as real, but anyway.

Last week his (otherwise normally healthy) 22-year old kid contracted COVID-19, went into total respiratory failure, and died in the hospital within 48 hours of displaying symptoms. He had a wife and a young child.

Now the dad is posting about how everyone should take it seriously.

You know what? Fuck you, asshole. You and the people like you are directly responsible for your son's death. Your wife is a goddamn nurse. You two should know better and you should be ashamed and feel horrible. The bullshit you're spreading is actually killing people, and not just your son.

I'm a piece of shit, but this is the moment I'd step on his neck. "Next time you're tempted to put other people's lives at risk, remember the guilt you feel now after killing your own son."

As much as I hate that it happened, I'm actually thankful that he eventually got to the correct answer. I'd tend to embrace that, and hope that it then spreads in his circle of ignorance.... change from within and all that.

Your political shit is almost a disease unto itself, and there is no vaccine against it.

Sure, between the options of, "ignorant asshole spreads ignorance," and "ignorant asshole becomes enlightened and spreads truth," I definitely would prefer the latter.

I just can't believe it takes your own kid dying to do that. And I wonder how much he truly recognizes the role he played in his son's death, or the role he might be playing in other peoples' deaths. Given the tone of his posts, it seems like he just recognizes he was incorrect about the facts rather than seeing the poison he was spreading and how damaging it is.

Jesus. Thats awful. I can't imagine losing a kid, especially not that sudden.

Belligerent ignorance is one thing, but...damn.

I wouldn't wish that on anyone.

You also run the risk of them doubling down on bullshit in their grief. Pointing out they were wrong isn't going to change anything, without a hint of gentle redirection.

One of the things that annoys me most about this pandemic is the number of fucking idiots who have no medical degree, knowledge or even basic understanding, but insist that because they have read a paper online (which they most of the time misread) they are now scientific experts and know that this is all a hoax.

I'm fed up of seeing this shit everywhere and from people I once had some respect for.

I'm not sure if this is more COVID or general politics, but has anyone else noticed how many of "a certain type" will cite screenshots for their proof? It's never a link to an article, even one of dubious journalistic integrity; it's always just a random screenshot of a headline or a section of text or a graph. I don't know if this is a new phenomenon or something I'm just now noticing, but it's come to my attention a lot recently.

I've noticed that on a few comments too.

Also people linking to studies which all come from sites like "www.covidisalie.com while trying to use that of evidence they are right.

Our school district had its first positive, a teacher. The media isn’t reporting it ( because all they do is regurgitate press releases anymore ) but the numbers exposed and now being quarantined are higher than they’re letting on.

I’m sitting here wondering if any of the exposed were on our bus. Time will tell I guess.

The larger picture here looks bad. Our numbers are higher than since this thing began in March and the general attitude from many is “its the flu.”
