Happy 4th to you American idiots! And happy belated Canada day to our friends to the north.

Since the 4th lands on a Saturday most of us will have the time to see family, unless you're a weekend warrior. Usually our town does fireworks from an elevated vantage point but I am not sure if that is taking place due to the pandemic. We have a great spot to watch from our deck if they do go off this year.

Any plans? I think I'll be cooking a pork shoulder and making carnitas. 'Merica!

Every time I see an update that knocks the Smoke your Meat thread to the top, I think, "I'll smoke your mom's meat."

    I'm such a child.

Going to the coast in one week to stay at a house with immediate family. Short drive to the beach, about half of which are open and there’s now required distancing rules with fines if you don’t abide by them. Masks are also required if you are not outside, or if you are and can’t maintain at least 6 feet.

should be a complete shit show. I look forward to the people watching. From a distance.

You have a child and I thought it was normal for you to smoke your own meat?

I’ll let her finish it however she wants... everyone has their preference: dry rub, wet slop, dry aged, smoked, brined... I don’t judge.

I just responded to two craigslist ads about some gigging opportunities. Kind of an impulse thing. And I'm talking to another guy on facebook about an opportunity.

Man, I'm ready to play out again.

Hope you’re all enjoying your weekends.

It’s crazy hot and humid here right now but I think I’ve figured shit out.

    F1 is coming back soon...

Every time I see Bombay Sapphire it reminds me of a gin distillery I visited in New Zealand. Tiny little place with an extremely enthusiastic German distiller who was absolutely beside himself that I was willing to listen and ask questions about his processes. Must have stayed there for 2 hours popping open stuff that he was saving.

As we were getting ready to leave, a guy came in and tried a few samples. He enthusiastically praised everything, saying, "it tastes just like Bombay Sapphire."

As he walked out the door with his purchases the distiller turned to me with a scowl on his face and snarled, "Bombay Sapphire is horse piss."

    It’s good ROI for cost/volume.

Park Gin is still my favourite.

    Probably a Nazi fugitive.

On a serious note, my go-to gin is The Botanist. Solid all around.

Never been huge on gin, but love it with soda water & lime. Such a refreshing mix. I’m still a rum fanatic when it comes to summer cocktails.

Bombay Sapphire was my gin of choice for the same reasons. Beautiful gin and for the cost it wasn't that bad. I could drink more than a few and not feel horrible about it. Worked as well in a G&T as it did in a martini. Many days i don't remember because of that mesmerizing blue bottle. Gin never got me sloppy drunk for some reason, but holy hell did it light a fuse under me if someone pissed me the fuck off. I'd go from chilling out enjoying a cigar to throwing the nearest brick, piece of firewood, what have you at someone if I didn't like their joke.

    Man do I miss it.

Bombay Sapphire is my go-to as well.

I did like the Tanqueray Rangpur with the lime flavor, that they came out with a while back.

Gunpower Gin is a recent favorite but Botanist is a close second. I don't drink gin often, so I tend to get nicer gin.

Whiskey, on the other hand, I don't mind mid range stuff. My favorite of late is 1783.

I'm still partial to Hendricks with a slice of cucumber with either tonic or club soda.
