If you like sports ESPN's "The Last Dance" is currently being shown on ABC stations. Two episodes each Saturday night @ 8-9 EDT. Replayed on Sunday's @ 3-4 PM EDT. It's about Jordan and the Chicago Bulls last season. It covers everything about the teams major players. 10 1 hour episodes in total.
The first episode introduced the characters and I was trying to figure out who the protagonists vs antagonists were. They are all total sociopaths. The wall makes the show. I won't spoil that part either but the finale episode featured plotlines within the wall and made me audibly go Oh SHIT! If you liked Rick n Morty, check out this show.
I have about 3 episodes left in Season 1. I’m really enjoying it. The red-headed AI bellhop is some funny shit. My only gripe is the CGI in the show. I can’t tell if it looks super low budget on purpose or not.
Just finished Avatar: The Airbender. This is hands down one of the best tv shows I've ever seen. All three seasons of it were exceptional, and I'm now full Avatard. It's not anime, it was originally on Nickelodeon. Ignore the film, and go straight for it on Netflix. You will not be disappointed.
Just finished "Gravity Falls". It was a show about twin 12 year olds in a town in Oregon investigating a bunch of mysterious shit while working at a tourist trap ran by their great uncle (gruncle). If you enjoy easter eggs and hints/clues, holy shit this show is for you. It also incorporates just about every mystery, horror movie or sci-fi trope there is in a way that is pretty kid friendly. It has exceptional voice talent, especially season 2 (Jon Stewart as a cat judge, Patton Oswalt as a mini-golf gnome, Louis CK as "a horrifying one-armed sweaty monstrosity", JK Simmons, Nathan Fillion, Alfred Molina...). Finally, it has one of the most satisfying endings of any show.
It’s the funniest and most creative kids show ever made. It ties in heavily to Rick and Morty— Justin Roiland wrote and voiced the time traveller Blendin Blandin on Gravity Falls. It’s an awesome and brilliant show with awesome characters. And it’s for the whole family. And it’s short (around 50 episodes) has a definitive ending and It STAYS that way. As I always tell people: order Disney Plus, even if it’s ONLY for this show.
"Black Sails", anyone? A show on "Starz". I have Hulu+, so can watch it there. Historical fiction show that Michael Bay produced on the pirates of the 1700's in Nassau, Bahamas. Really fascinating. One of these shows where I don't think it got a lot of "buzz", but was well received by critics.
Been around for a few years now, might even be a thread dedicated to it somewhere. That being said I enjoyed it quite a lot, like Spartacus at Sea.
I fucking LOVED this show. There’s never been any form of movie or show that does Piracy better or more exciting. Season 1- very good Season 2- Completely awesome Season 3-meh Season 4- completely fucking awesome A show that constantly has you guessing whether to root for or against its main characters. The show also has one of the most definitive, satisfying and awesome endings ever. It’s sets up Treasure Island very well.
I just loved that I could read up on these characters, characters that I never knew weren't characters, at all, but actual historical persons: Blackbeard, Billy Bones, Charles Vane, Anne Bonny, Long John Silver, etc. So incredibly interesting. "Spartacus at Sea". "Game of Thrones". Yup. Totally get those comparisons. I'll add another. If you loved "Deadwood", you'll love "Black Sails". Edit: "Billy Bones" does happen to be a fictional character.
I tried watching that show when it premiered in the hey day of piratebay. I made it through 2-3 episodes and gave up. It felt like another non HBO half attempt at something different but was closer to network tv in terms of quality, tone, and execution than HBO. Maybe it got better later in the season? I mean The Sopranos pilot was way off the tone of the rest of the series.
YOLO Crystal Fantasy Absolutely off the wall animated sitcom from the creator of “Bushworld Adventures” (along with Gravity Falls, this takes place in the Rick and Morty Universe) about two horrible Australian Party Girls is the most absolutely twisted random show I have ever seen. It’s also probably the funniest thing you’ll watch this year. Give it a try, I was howling. Like Rick and Morty, the humour feels totally original in a time where comedy is so stagnant.
Not sure if it's been mentioned in here before but The Man in the High Castle is brilliant. Ridley Scott has his hand in it and once you get towards the end of the first season you'll never know what's coming next. Absolutely captivating, three seasons out at this point.
Raised by Wolves on HBO Max is pretty good. Sci-Fi how about androids landing on a planet to raise human embryos after Earth is ravaged, and then it goes on from there. Has a similar feel to Prometheus, which makes sense as Ridley Scott directed the first two episodes.
Away is very weak. It's not laughably terrible, but it's severely boring and uninspired. The premise of a mission to mars has so much promise, but the result here doesn't focus nearly enough on space, and ultimately comes off like a mediocre melodrama where mom's job just happens to be astronaut. I was hoping for some mixture of The Martian, For All Mankind, Kim Stanley Robinson's Mars Trilogy, Apollo 13, Sunshine, and Mission to Mars, but got none of that.
