Wisconsin is absolutely fucked. The background here is that it is one of the most gerrymandered states in the country, and despite Democrats receiving 52% of votes cast (to Republicans' 45%) statewide in the 2018 elections, the are a 36-63 minority in the State Assembly. Because Governor is a statewide election, Democrats took the Governorship. In response, the legislature passed a bunch of laws restricting the power of the Governor, which were signed by the lame duck Republican Governor before he left office in order to cripple his incoming successor. These laws were upheld by a likewise compromised State Supreme Court. Now, to the present. The current Governor has responded to the current pandemic by trying to get the State Assembly to approve mail-in ballots statewide, or delay the election. The State Assembly has refused. He called a special session of the State Assembly to address the matter, and the Republicans gaveled it closed seconds after it began. He then issued an executive order delaying the election until June. The State Assembly sued and brought the case before the State Supreme Court, which has just now overruled the Governor and ordered the election to proceed as normal tomorrow. There is no mail-in ballot solution, so it's going to be in-person voting across the state. Additionally, Milwaukee had issued an order to close its polling places a few hours after the Governor's order. As it stands, the election is scheduled to be held tomorrow, with it's strongest Democratic bastion, a city of 600,000, unable to vote, and, should the polls be reopened amidst this chaos, at greater risk of infection due to the population density. This is all happening because one of the Republicans on the Supreme Court is up for election (after being appointed by the previous Governor), and low Democratic turnout will ensure he keeps his seat.
Or people just say "fuck it" and go to the polls, and disregard potentially getting sick and spreading it in order to vote against the person who tried to suppress them. What makes you think that those who do show up aren't going to be pissed off enough about having to do so that they vote against him?
Milwaukee said they only have enough poll workers to open 5 of the 180 polling stations in the city. Additionally SCOTUS just ruled that the state must throw out absentee ballots received after election day. Under normal circumstances this might not be a big deal, but due to the virus the request for absentee ballots has been so overwhelming that there are at least 10,000 ballots that won't arrive at voters until after election day, much less have been filled out and mailed back.
