Exactly. Just like how I’d never call a gay man a fag. But it’s funny to call weak, spineless or lazy people that.

    Sometimes even necessary.

Retarded people are also the least likely group to be offended by their own derogatory term. Because you know, they’re retarded.

....but call a Little Person a midget and they’re liable to pull out a stepladder to shout in your face with their squeaky, weird voices. Gnomes have no sense of humour. And they’ll chuck a hex on you if you cross them.

It’s been well documented that little people have magical abilities. One minute your using them as a foot rest. The next, they’re looking at you out of the corner of their eye, real funny like. Suddenly, there’s a flash of light, and the dwarf has morphed into a mage, casting his spells on you and you black out. The midget raped you.

The worst is when you stab the mage and he falls into a pile of SIX of the little bastards. Now one is biting your leg, one with bat wings is flying overhead raining ninja stars down on you as two more give you pokes in the tookas with their little pitchforks.

They’re like a final boss: you find their weak spot (staircases, curbs, gym class etc.) and focus your firepower there.

As I think most people here know, I work in preschool. 15 years now. It doesn’t pay great but I love it. I didn’t like it at first though. And then I had two kiddos in my class, who were autistic, and I saw what their parents didn’t do for them, and how much they appreciated us, and I absolutely fell in love with the profession... this was back when the idea of men working in preschool was considered “weird” to say the least, though I’ve had my fair share of slurs directed at me since then.

I still think calling people retarded is funny. I still appreciate otherwise “offensive” jokes about it. There’s a difference between a joke, and someone specifically intending to be mean toward a group of people. It’s all about context. Don’t get your panties in a wad. Given the work that I do, I know a lot of gay people. But calling someone a “fag” can still be a joke in the right context.

It’s like people forget that we, as a society, can be funny and sarcastic without intending to do harm.

The perceived “wrong” involves the intent of the person saying it, and the context they said it in.

Ymmv though. Just because something is a not funny joke, doesn’t mean it wasn’t still intended as a joke.

Nobody has forgotten. The problem is everyone has their own bullshit standards and somehow manages to be arrogant enough to believe that their own should be applied, yet is still abhorred when the fallback results in a manner they feel was unwarranted.

I agree, but context and intent are very open to interpretation and tend to be malleable for the spectator, based on their own preconceived notions and/or whatever argument they want to make at the time. I don't think people even apply their own standards consistently. If the most recent hadn't been James Gunn and instead someone people on here didn't like the posts would probably be about how he was always a cunt, and who knows, maybe he really is a child molester. That's why Bill Maher can give a full endorsement of teen/adult sex and one group of people won't blink an eye, but when someone like Milo makes comments far more borderline those same people will go off like he might as well have been John Gacy. I have to disagree that everyone who has said something unsavory is subject to the same sort of push back from anyone who can dig up dirt. Sometimes they are, and other times it will just roll off if it's not flavor of the week. It's totally random and incoherent, much like you would expect from any kind of mob justice. There's definitely a line between people like Gunn and Roseanne, but it's not being drawn anywhere that makes sense.

When this nonsense actually stops is when people stop convincing themselves it's justified just because they didn't like the person it happened to this week.

Interestingly enough, it looks like the Gunn firing may be kicking off a bit of a response amongst some of the celebs attached to the franchise...

Bautista calls it "wrong", and will have more to say about it later, and there are rumours that the actors are going to form a united stand to get him back.

    I'd love to see that...

Me too. He’s well liked and known to be one of the most fun directors to work with. He often fucks with actors right before a scene just to make them crack up like “READY ON SET....DON’T SUCK THIS TIME!!! ACTION!!!!”

This crap is gonna reach a tipping point (sorry for the cliche) where it's gonna backfire.

    This might be it.

I don't watch GOTG; sci-fi doesn't interest me. But hell if I don't think it's time for someone to fight back against this social media faux-offended bullshit. Like Thiel did to Gawker. I don't like Thiel, but someone needed to retaliate, and I appreciate that he did.

Tick tock motherfuckers. The pendulum swings back too. It's like Disney forgets that they did propaganda and rampantly racist cartoons as well.

If none of them agree to work the movie unless he directs, he will get hired back yesterday. It’s far too lucrative a franchise to lose. This shit is so stupid. They are treating like him he’s being accused of rape or something.

“Hey do you want millions of dollars or do you want no money and less exposure to take a stand for a director the general public hasn’t heard of?”

Interesting that most of the sites posting about how it’s an overreaction won’t actually repost or link to his actual tweets. It’s a business, if you threaten the reputation/image of the company you work for, especially a monolith like Disney, they don’t really care if it’s an overreaction.

I hate the social media vigilantes too, though. The guy was married to Pam from The Office for god sake!

It's Shark Week on the Discovery Channel.

    You may commence celebrating.

Here's a really good and funny article about one of tonight's specials. If you are a sports fan, you understand that Gronk + Sharks = hilarious

Anyone else follow Floyd Mayweather on Instagram? His posts about 50 cent over the last week have been amazing.

Yeah, but if I'm not mistaken, Adult Swim already publicly stated their stance on that shit months ago... I can't find it now, but it was "yeah, we know, yeah, we're still doing it".

Rick and Morty has a rabid fan base... enough that Adult Swim ordered 100 episodes, and they brought szechuan sauce to McDonald's.

It'll be interesting to see if they cave under the social media outrage like Disney did.
