Surprise, surprise! Down in AA Tim Tebow is hitting .261, albeit with 88 K's is 67 games. Still, not bad for someone who hadn't played since high school.

I love this note from the weekend:
The Mets paid Bobby Bonilla $1.19 million dollars yesterday. They will continue to do that every year until 2035. (He hasn't played since 2001.)

Talk about cornering the market in being a professional disappointment. I almost forgot that overblown retardation involving him years ago.

Aw come on, now. He led the league in sacrifice flies, twice!

All I remember was that one year he played for the Braves, I think the Mets were paying him more than the Braves did that year. I shouldn't laugh, though. The Braves are still paying Bruce Sutter for a few more years.

Ohtani was activated from the DL today, just in time to face the Mariners tonight as the DH. I am not pleased with this development.

Bautista returned to Toronto and they played his old walk-up music for his first at bat, something they don’t do for visiting players. Cool moment, her sure loved it.

Looks like it's going to be LA.

"The Baltimore Orioles, barring a last minute snag, will trade All-Star shortstop Manny Machado to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday, according to a baseball official with direct knowledge of the deal.

The official spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the trade has not been finalized."

5 prospects for 2 1/2 months (+ the post season). That's one hell of an expensive rental.

The sad thing is that word is he's told friends he wants to be a Yankee. They can ship Didi off somewhere, plug Machado in at SS and get younger and much more dangerous.

With the trade of Chris Archer, Tampa Bay now has zero starting pitchers on the roster. Literally zero.

    Interesting strategy.

    Something different...Rougned Odor's line tonight. 1 for 1 with 5 walks.

My ESPN twitter feed keeps showing up with Barry Bonds stuff, and I've seen a couple other things here and there. Is the great "forgive Barry for cheating" train starting? I am not on board, mostly because he was/is such a dick. I guess we'll know if 60 minutes does an interview in the next 18 months.

Well, this is going to get worse . . .
Joe Simpson, who is the analyst for the Braves TV broadcast is in a fight, now. Chip Caray is terrible, but Joe is pretty good. He played in Majors (most famously, he was the one holding George Brett back during the pine tar incident), and never shies away from speaking his mind. He'll call out players (even on the Braves) or umpires when they do something bush league, and has a blatant distaste for anyone he thinks disrespects the game. The Nationals rookie phenom, Juan Soto, is likely going to win Rookie of the Year. He's really good. He is supposedly 19, and from the Dominican Republic. It's always been a running joke, that the Dominican players have been known to lie about their age. If you're a hotshot shortstop, and you're not drafted by a major league team when you're 15, it's too late. So, the joke is that some kid that's 15 was also 15 last year, and the year before that, etc. Soto is a big dude. He looks a lot more mature than 19. So, Simpson made that point in a Braves v Nationals game the other day. He basically called into question if he was really 19. That was in game 1 of a double header. So, the Nats GM came to the booth, called Simpson out face-to-face and Simpson apologized to him. Simpson made a comment about it in the second game, said Soto was a bona fide 19, and moved on.

Well, now the Dominican Republic issued a statement on Soto's behalf, that called out Joe Simpson's two college kids by name and school. I think that crosses a line. Soto is a public figure, and Simpson is allowed to make commentary. He may have gone too far, in his accusation, but that's it. Simpson's children are not public figures and should NOT have been called out like that. Joe Simpson is going to go bananas.

ETA: I should add, by the way, that the Braves own Raphael Furcal, who won the Rookie of the Year award when he claimed to be 19 later admitted he was actual 22. Miguel Tejada and Wandy Rodriguez both addmitted to it, too, so it's not like Simpson was just making stuff up.
