I don't know why but it just hit me that Thanksgiving is like a month away. A MONTH. Where does the time go? They say the older we get the faster it goes which feels true. FOCUS: What changes are you noticing in your day to day life as you age?
Im developing a very mild gluten intolerance. Every time I have something that has a lot of bread, pizza especially, I am farting like John Candy an hour later. I dont really care because I really enjoy farting, but its been so bad some nights that my wife had to boot me from the bedroom.
Could it be the cheese? Can you eat cheese by itself and be ok? I thought I had raging IBS for years until I started correlating my symptoms with food and figured out that I am hardcore lactarded. Dairy pills for life. I should buy stock in that company.
Anything with sugar or caffeine dehydrates me now--not as bad as alcohol does but it is to a point where I usually have to drink water now after I have anything sweet or a diet soda.
Once again I'm working out of my home office. To me a big commute is detouring through the kitchen to get a coffee as I walk down the hall to the office. Lunch hour is a bitch, as I head to the deck and fire up the BBQ. Instead of coffee breaks, I get to go cut the grass (which is a nice physical and aromatic break from work), or go putz in the shop for a few minutes (which is again, a nice physical and aromatic break from work). Working from home is probably the biggest quality of life improvement I can think of, assuming that you have the space, and the separation to do it. By separation I mean a separate space, with a door. Once you're in there, you are in "work" mode, and people don't drop by to hang out to visit or treat you like you're sitting on the couch on a weekend or something. Next in line to that are flexible work hours... being able to go grocery shopping at 2pm or go to a bank or medical appointment without the hassle and rush of fitting it in around work is almost life changing. Unfortunately not many people are able to do that with their job, nor are they cut out for the discipline it takes to do that... but if you can, it's heavenly.
I run a body shop so unfortunately, no working from home. I'd love to say I have the will power to focus on my work but I'm sure I'd just end up drinking beer all day.
Time flying as well as being forgetful as fuck. That's why I don't post here often, because I forget y'all are here... In the meantime, the hubby and I are on our way to see Red Green tonight. I've seen his show but never his stand up so I'm curious if it's any good. Anyone who may know, let me know. Now, try not to be too jealous!
I live about 2.5 miles from where I work, so my commute is five minutes at most. Not as good as Nett's set-up, but I'll take it. We were almost finished with the new house we're building, (thanks Irma for setting us back probably six months), and it's about a mile and a half further away from work compared to where we're living now. Believe it or not, this actually bothers me. It means two more stop signs. TWO!! I suppose I'll get over it.
I'm rewatching Revenge of the Sith. I maintain that it is a much better movie than The Force Awakens, but holy shit did I forget how terrible the Anakin/Padme scenes in this movie are. So, so bad. I swear, this is getting talked about on here more than sex now. Y'all are becoming geriatric at a very young age. Is this the shit I have to look forward to when I turn 35? Same here. I would love to work from home, but realistically I would probably just be shitfaced 24/7 until I went broke.
I work from home pretty often. When I do, I typically drop my daughter off at daycare around 7:30, come home and quietly make breakfast and drink coffee while listening to music and reading the news, then get started around 8:30. I'll work until around 6, generally working through lunch. On days when I go into the office, I leave my house at 7, I'm at my desk by 9:30, and I leave promptly at 5 so I can catch my express train and be back home by 7:30. There's a definite incentive for my company to allow me to work from home because I get more done and I'm a happier employee in the long run. On topic for the thread, though, as I get older I randomly get sore more often, and for longer durations of time. On Tuesday this week, having done nothing strenuous the day or weekend before, I woke up and it felt like someone had taken a sledgehammer to my lower back. Aleve hasn't touched it yet. Heat does nothing. Ice does nothing. I'm hoping it subsides soon so I don't need to go to a chiropractor. I also get a hangover from like two beers sometimes, which is bullshit.
In my last job I used to work at home 3-4 days a week. Now I go in every day. I have complete flexibility to work at home, but my wife works at home 100% of the time now so we need to spread out a bit. My commute is about 15 minutes and half the time people don’t roll in until 11 AM. So the first half of the day is super productive.
The more I think about it I honestly don't think I even would want to work from home. I'm the kind of person who needs to get out of the house often. Besides, I like my coworkers right now and like being around people. It's amazing how much more pleasant a workday is when you aren't dealing with corporate policy bullshit. I wouldn't say never, but I don't think I would ever want to work for a Fortune 500 company again for that reason. The perks are good, the politically correct environment and the fact that there really are shitheads who cry to HR over dumb shit ruins it. Also, here's you guys in, oh I don't know? 6 months at this rate? I'll send you guys one for Christmas. Lots of love. Stay safe out there!
This to me is the most depressing aspect of getting older. I'm on the wrong side of 50 now, and it's a rare day (or hour) when something on me doesn't hurt. I suspect some of this is arthritis related, as my shoulders, hands and occasionally a hip hurt me regularly. The idea that I will never be pain free again without medicating really sucks. I now have much more sympathy for those of you with back and other injuries that keep you in pain. On the bright side - the pain stops when I drink enough.
Getting to bed early is the best thing ever now. I might not have kids just so I can keep a healthy sleep schedule.
I narrowed it to two movies so me decide which 80’s horror classic to watch: Silver Bullet or The Serpent And The Rainbow?
