Rant: tenant tried to commit suicide last night. I am the property manager so I provided the key and communicated with the police and paramedics. He will be fine. I am worried for his future though, especially since he just started a nrw job. Not much I can do as this is a business arrangement, but I luckily work at a place that can help me find community resources for him. He has nobody down here and if I can help him connect with people for him to talk to, I will be proud and happy to do that for him. He is a good guy and sometimes the stress just becomes overwhelming.

Rants: My stepdad's father passed away. He was 92. On December 8th, 1941, he lied about his age to join the Air Force and was stationed in Hawaii He lived there for the rest of his life. My mom married into the family more than 10 years ago. I met him when I was about 24. That I was an adult step-grandson didn't matter to him. He was nothing but kind and welcoming to not only me but my mom and my brother. In fact, when I got married, my wife and I asked that nobody send us anything for a gift since we already had everything we needed. A week after we got back from our honeymoon, he had sent us a card congratulating us and a check to help with the honeymoon. That's just the kind of man he was.

With this in mind, we flew down to Hawaii for the service. It is goddamned expensive to fly to Hawaii and book a hotel at the best of times. It is thievery to do it with 3 days notice during spring break. This was on top of trying to find a sitter for our two neurotic dogs. In addition to dealing with the stress of all of the stuff before the flight, the actual flight was a nightmare on its own. Baby James is 19 months now, which makes her a hurricane of self-absorption. She responds better to me, so I had to deal with her for the entirety of a 6 hour flight. By the time we landed, she had had 10 hours of sleep or so in the previous 24 hours. She usually has anywhere from 15-18 hours. There were moments when I desired to rush the cockpit so the undercover air marshal could put me out of my misery.

I am here in Hawaii until Saturday. My mom and step dad were gracious enough to take Baby James for the night so Mrs James and I could be adults. Long story short, she fell asleep at 9:30 after two margaritas, and I'm yelling about feminism on a message board at midnight.

    I want to go home.

This is sort of a mixed rant and rave. Call it a ravnt. Backstory: The kid (14 yr old daughter) and I moved in December, but have yet to sort out our respective bookcases. I know some of my books ended up in her room because they had all been packed together.

Yesterday I went into her room to ask her something, and I saw that my signed copy of I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell was sitting on her bedside table. "Why are you reading that?!?" I asked in an appalled but not angry tone. "I'm not, I used it to kill a bug." I picked it up, and sure enough the cover had some bug guts on it. Chuckling calmly, I took the book with me out of the room and now all I have to do is figure out how to burn it without setting off the smoke alarm.

RANT: Company decided to restructure the bonus program. So far I'm out $6000 in two months. Time to start looking for a new job. 40 is a good age to change careers, right?

rant/rave: I got a deluge of interview request in the span of about 2 hours yesterday. My anxiety has skyrocketed with the usual pangs and fears of inadequacy. One is a recorded skype style interview which I don't think will have a person on the other end. Odd. One would be for a marketing position at the college of business I attended. Part of me would be psyched to work on campus, the other is worried I'll beef the interview and they'll realize a C stutent lacky that hasn't accomplished anything with the degree they gave me. Worry worry worry.

Rant: My therapist facility has instituted an annual membership fee not covered by insurance. It's frustrating to no end dealing with healthcare services. While the medications have worked wonders, my therapist's help has kind of plateued. If I end up paying this fee I'll probably request changing to someone new. Not really sure how to gauge what's good therapy or not but Im less happy with the money Im spending each time I go in.

Rant: I've been sitting here for months wondering which crazy is going to snap first. It may be me. Jesus. I just got bitched out for going out to have a cigarette at 6 PM tonight because Crazy was taking a nap. In the fucking garage. Me going in and out the door woke him up and apparently I have no respect for sleeping people. Who sleeps in the God damn garage in the afternoon. Or any time of day for that matter? How the fuck am I supposed to know your crazy ass decided to bed down mid afternoon in the fucking garage?

Rave: I just put another big chunk of money on my property. I can't get out of here soon enough.

    Rant:
Make it 0/3 on the year for getting offers after job interviews! My latest one was for a job out in Oregon. I really want a change of scenery, I am in a good position to relocate, and this one sounded like a good opportunity, so of course it wasn't going to happen.

Rave: I met Ben Folds last week before one of his shows! I attended the Q&A session with him and then was able to get his autograph and have my picture taken with him. I was a little worried because I had always heard that he was a jerk, but he shook my hand and was super nice to me and everyone else and seemed genuinely happy to be there.

Rant: I am still averaging around 60 hours per week between my two jobs, and it has really taken its toll. I usually sleep until at least 1:00 in the afternoon on Sundays now (my one day off). I hate wasting the day like that.

Rave: At least I can count on the site of John Rocker and his girlfriend grocery shopping to give me a nice chuckle and make my marginally less depressed about working at my night job.

Rant/Rave: The old school mill workers that work here. They are a major problem for moral, they are everything that you think big union workers are like. But some of there stories are hilarious, today they were telling us about a millwright they used to work with, he had his own company that was called Mainline Millwright, you can guess what he liked to do.

RANT: My debit card number was stolen, and some asshole in Virginia started buying some shit at a Food Lion. So now I have to get a new debit card and wait a week for that. I now respect cash for purchases much more than I have been lately.

RAVE: The bank caught the suspicious activity after the first small transaction, and stopped it from getting worse. And it's a good thing because I had a lot more money in the bank than I usually do.

Rave: After a break of several years because of my location, I was finally able to make a reasonable two hour drive to bet on the Derby. Ate a steak, slightly overcooked and under seasoned, while I researched and made my pics yesterday. I accidentally placed two bets on a race yesterday because this was the first time I was betting on Friday instead of Saturday, I won about $14 on that fuck up. It was a good day.

Rant: Mother-in-law is coming to visit today. Today will not be as good a day as yesterday unless I win big tonight.

Rant- Beefed the campus job interview. Just got an email back from other interview, which I had scored an in person interview with, informing me they chose someone over the weekend. They gave me the option to come in for it this past Thursday/Friday or this coming week. Because I am an anxious bitch I put it off and chose this week.

All that's left is hearing from the job I did a recorded video with. Which btw is the worst way to do an interview. Took me half an hour to get my first intro video done right. I sort of hope they can see the discarded takes as it would make a great viral video with the cursing and screaming.

Fuuuuuuck: The day before you get your period is the wrong day to get a whole bunch of injections in your shoulder. Hello inflammatory response and deep achy pain. It hurts so much worse than the first round a few weeks ago.

Rave: This seems to be the most effective thing I've tried for my shoulder so far, and it doesn't feel like there's a bunch of gravel in there anymore. So that's rad.

Rant: We took our kids to the carnival and one of the rides had music playing and Taylor Swift Shake it off came on. Our 16 month old doesn't talk yet, but when the course of the song came on(Shake, Shake, Shake, Shake) he started mouthing the words. I thought I was going crazy, so I told my wife and a few of our friends that where there with there kids to look. Next time the course came on, they were watching and all started to laugh.

Wife and I just put an offer in on a house we saw on Sunday and the seller accepted. The place is perfect. So fucking excited.

    Rave

We're in a position where we don't need to sell our condo, so we're going to rent it out. I'm gonna be a landlord!
