    Geddy's voice is that of an aging rock star and he's lost the ability to play and annunciate, but man, they can still play. Pretty impressive since Alex has some pretty serious arthritis in his hands. This is from the new BluRay / DVD of their tour this past year, and it kicks all kinds of ass.

    I was on my way to work when Dublin Blues came on satellite radio. I hadn't heard the song in many years. When I first heard it, it could not have fit my life better. The loss, the heartache, the addiction, the introspection, the desire to be anywhere other than where I was and going through anything other than what I was going through. It was all me. I hit the replay button and listened to it over and over this morning. Memories flooded my head. It put a smile on my face. I didn't have the heartache I had years ago, I enjoyed the memories, even the sad ones. It hurt to take the key out of the ignition, that song would not be there when I put it back.

    Rush: If you go to around 4:37 of this piece, and yes, it's a piece, it exemplifies everything I love about rock music: virtuosity, balls, timing, dynamics, and soul. It's all right there. One of my favorite all time bands performing the hell out of one of my all time favorite songs. It just builds so well.

    Sometimes I miss Nitwit because he was probably one of the few posters who shared a similar taste in music. Anyway, here are two I've had on repeat for the past couple days. Specifically these live versions. FYI, James McMurtry is the son of Larry McMurtry; you know, the guy who won the Pulitzer for Lonesome Dove.

    Every year James Hetfield of Metallica does a benefit called Acoustic-4-A-Cure. Here is his set which includes Unforgiven with a mandolin solo and leslie organ, and a cover of "I Put A Spell On You" with his daughter on vocals. That girl has some serious pipes. Just wish the audio was cleaner.
