This is quite a specific problem but any help would be much appreciated. I am trying to get internet/email set up on my new Blackberry but when I go on the 'Setup Wizard' > email setup the only option is 'I want to use a work email account with a Blackberry Enterprise Server'. So I tried the online registration and got this message when trying to create an account: 'This Blackberry device is not registered with your wireless service provider'.

It then suggested I go to Advanced Options > Host Routing Table and hit 'Register now' - I do and get a message saying 'Registration message sent!' but then nothing happens and the list remains with no entries. The plan I am on does include internet/email. Is this a problem with the carrier or is there something I can do to fix this?

Your carrier should have webpage that allows you to set up what email servers it checks in order to push the emails to your phone. I would contact your carrier to get that link. They'll give you a username and password or ask you to register with them.

Yeah I tried that but it came up with the error 'This Blackberry device is not registered with your wireless service provider' and suggested I go to Advanced Options > Host Routing Table and hit 'Register now' - I do and get a message saying 'Registration message sent!' but then nothing happens and the list remains with no entries. Any other ideas?

I just moved into a single bed room place without any roommates and decided I was going to try and go without any Cable/Satellite TV. With all the options to stream and download I've gotten along pretty well so far. However, no ESPN is killing me. Does anyone know how to get ESPN3 even if you aren't on internet with one of the providers they grant access too? I heard somewhere you could use software to hide your IP address to gain access. Has anyone tried this or is it a buch of crap?

I've tried a few other streaming sites and frankly the quality is terrible.

Ok, I'll try to explain this the best I can, but I suck with computers so bare with me. I want to take a 15 second clip out of a television show, and isolate it. It's a really funny clip that I want to send to somebody as a joke, but sending anymore than just that clip would kill the joke.

I downloaded the entire 30 minute episode of the television show on iTunes. I also have a MacBook Pro, with the fancy iMovie application (which I haven't used before, but I thought it was supposed to be good for this kind of thing). I tried to import the show into iMovie thinking that would allow me to cut the clip I want, but iMovie won't import the tv show's file.

So...is there something else I can do to import the show into iMovie, or am I going down the wrong path completely. Is there another way to cut and isolate the 15 seconds I want out of a 30 minute television show?

    Thanks in advance.

The problem is that you bought the video from iTunes. It will have digital rights management (DRM) protection, preventing you from easily editing it.

iMovie will work if you download the movie -- which, I'm thinking, isn't illegal anymore since you've already bought it. If you aren't familiar with downloading videos, the very easiest thing to do is go to megarelease (google it), and search for the episode you're looking for. Download the xvid version (not the 720p version -- the file size is way too big for your purposes), and import it into iMovie. It will probably take a while to import, so make yourself a sandwich and come back to it. After that it should be all downhill (in a good way) for you. If it's still not working for you, come on back and I'll recommend some other applications you can try.

This will probably come across as dumb, but when it comes to computer fu I'm borderline retarded. I have a Macbook and I bought an external hard drive for it. I want to be able to keep files (movies etc) only on the external and not on both my internal as well as the external as "time machine" wants me to do. Is there a way for me to basically run my external like on my old PC? Thanks in advance.

I currently do the same thing, but I'm not sure where you're having trouble. If you have (and presumably want) Time Machine enabled and backing up the shit on your internal drive, that should only be taking up a fraction of the space on the external drive, unless you bought a really small drive. If that's the case, you should just be able to access the drive like any other external drive and put the files on it. Once the movie or whatever is on the external drive, just delete it off the internal... What is the problem in that process? If the problem is that Time Machine is backing up the movies before you move them over, you could just tell Time Machine to ignore whatever folder you keep your movies in (via the Time Machine preferences).

If you don't want Time Machine fucking with anything whatsoever, you can of course turn it off in the System Preferences. Then just use your external drive like any other.

Maybe this isn't the right spot for this but I'll ask anyways. I need to do some soldering on a circuit board. Specifically, I'll be doing this:
    http://members.cox.net/dpeters30/97_sebring_dash.htm
If you scroll towards the bottom of that page it shows what I'll be soldering.

I've never soldered on a circuit board before and I'm wondering how to go about this. I'm not sure if I'm supposed to put heat on the little metal strip on the board or do I gob it up on the gun and drag it on the metal contacts or what?

    Virus pop ups

I'm getting these virus pop ups now (I have no idea what I did on my computer to warrant this) and I'm not sure what to do. The link says "do you want to block this attack" and I keep clicking no, but I don't know if it's safe to hit "yes" because it is a Microsoft alert. Ideas?

Edit: I tried to print the screen to show you guys, but now I can't open MS Paint. And for some reason I can't use Internet Explorer as a message comes up in the internet window saying something like "activate antivirus spyware before continuing"

    Re: Virus pop ups

Sounds like one of those fake Antivirus malware programs like AntiVirus Xp or Vista Defender or <any one of a ton of names>. There's a pretty good guide to getting rid of it here.

I just got a new 500 GB hard drive for my desktop along with a hard drive enclosure to put it in. I want to copy my current 80 GB hard drive over to the new one, so when I open up the computer and install it, Windows and all my programs will be on it. I downloaded Ghost from Norton and was going to use that to clone it but I ran into a problem. My current hard drive is partioned into a 16 GB C Drive with about 15.8 GB of programs. Then there is a 60 GB D Drive with about 55 GB worth of music, movies, documents, etc. Basically the C drive only has the windows folders and then the programs and while the D drive has all the data, so to speak.

I can't figure out how to copy it with Ghost so that the two drives will be spread proportionally onto the new hard drive. I'm not sure how to describe what I mean. There's an option on Ghost to expand the hard drive size when you transfer it over, but the only one I can find just makes it take up all available space, there's no way to specify how much to expand it by. I want to copy my C and D drive over to the new hard drive and I want both drives to be larger than they currently are.

Is there a way to just combine the D drive into the C drive and make it one drive? If so, I could do that and then just tell Ghost to copy it and expand to fill all available size. I don't know why it was separated in the first place, that's just how the guy who set up our computer ten years ago did it. Why would he have done this?

    Thanks in advance

I have a handful of PC games for my laptop. My question is can I plug a PS3 or Xbox controller into my laptop and configure it to play these games? The games I'm talking about are like Halo 1 and Max Payne, among others. My computer is a Gateway laptop running Windows 7, in case it matters.

I have 2 friends who I know have done this, but not having a PC, all I can refer you are to some articles I've googled. Seems reasonably simple...

We do that all the time at work to test various controllers with games.
