I took a break from Carolla for a couple of months but randomly started back up again with the DAG episode and the Pendergrass bit had me on the floor.

As for Donnie. Who leaves a $231k job for a podcast? The lawsuit seems fishy to me. Donnie clearly worked on the project, but proving ownership based on an oral contract will be a haul.

I'm not a fan of politicians of any stripe. But I've got to hand it to Lt. Gov Newsome. He was a great sport. Even a friend of mine who is a very conservative member of the California Legislature says that Gavin is a good dude. That clearly came through in the interview.

I wish Adam could occasionally take a step back and take a breath and actually interview a guest instead of spewing Adam's own worldview and adgenda. Too often he barrels along ignoring the guest. Even though I find Adam very funny, this can get tiresome.

I remain a fan and think Adam is one of the quickest people on the planet.

It was awesome to hear Larry Miller back doing his podcast. He is lucky to be alive. What a freak accident.

[BTW the Mark Maron (sp) WTF Podcast interview with Mel Brooks from a few weeks ago is fantastic]

This actually brings up a good point and a reason I don't make Adam daily listening anymore. His interviews seem to be pretty pointless lately. If Adam just does a show with Bryan and Allison, or Adam and Drew, it is a good show. They know how to handle Adam and how to get their comments in without Adam slapping them down constantly (only on occasion). When he interviews people is when it goes downhill. You can tell the guests are just trying to get a word in edgewise while Adam goes on and on and barely lets the guest talk. His interviews didn't used to be that bad, but he does seem to be much more passionate about his agenda lately. I wonder how much of that is him just being generally in a shitty mood about the lawsuit. There is a lot more "Why am I paying for you when you didn't do anything" rants in his podcasts lately, and I feel like he wants to just be saying "by the way, this is addressed directly to you, fucking Donny!"

Adam's a pretty terrible interviewer. He makes a point of pride out of doing zero prep, but a lot of times this just results in talking about something the guest has already gone over a billion times with other interviewers (ie: Tommy Lee and his sex tape with Pam Anderson), or charging ahead with a topic that the guest obviously doesn't want to talk about. It was pretty obvious that Elliot Gould didn't want to talk about Barbara Streisand, but Adam kept needling him about it.

Also some of the rants need to be retired. I'm so sick of hearing about how terrible the LAPD/traffic is, especially when he starts screaming about it. He's at his best when he has a dynamic guest that can hold their own and riff on whatever random topic comes up and go off into weird tangents about it.

LOTS of projecting going on here.

When the set up is the radio format (Allison news segment, Bald's sound effects, etc) the whole show is directed towards Adam's rants, which I guess is the purpose since it is his show. But when he does one on ones the free form is always great. He usually ask the same set of questions, how did you start out, were your parents around for your success, were they shitty parents, etc. I think hearing about that from any given celebrity is awesome and entertaining. I haven't heard the Tyson interview but hear it's awesome. I like the radio format in a day to day what going on in the world through Adams eye, but it does have it's short comings trying to do substantive interviews. It almost falls victim to Adam' main hatred of terrestrial radios got to keep moving mentality. He does about a 30 minute intro, 30 minute interview, and 30 minutes of news. It takes a helluva guest add anything to the news section I've found.

It'd be hard, and shitty programing though not to bring up big events in guest lives. I mean rock on Lisa Loeb or Elliot Gould for wanting to plug your new stuff but 9/10 ten what ever they're plugging is far from interesting radio/pod. Some guest might resent being asked the same thing for the 9 billionth time but at least Adam has a hilarious bent on just about anything. Which is why I listen.

Just listened to the Elliott Gould podcast and I found it hilariously entertaining. Because Adam's response of a light/funny "wtf is going on here" was great. Not even Adam was bothered by it, as he said on the next episode. I think he's right about the actor thing, we always expect these guys are geniuses, but sometimes all they can do is read a script, take direction and act. They're not intelligent, fast, live performers with profound understandings of the world.

Also, I'm not all on Carolla's jock, but given the fact he's doing a show 5 days a week for a year, the guy is going to repeat himself qutie often, have some on days and have some off days. He's beating a dead horse a lot of the times, but you never know when they're going to get into some hilarious fucking improv. The "What else you got" tonight show producer bit is always fucking hilarious to me. So of course is everything with DAG. The only thing that kills me about Carolla is when he talks about music, he's one of those guys that just knocks out entire genres of music as bad.

Yeah, I don't know why but his "traffic, weather, weather traffic newssss and weather" run on improvs slay me every time and it's not even that great of a bit. I've tried listening to his taste in music and man I swear half the time he bitches about other music sucking I sit there and think he has no idea what the fuck he's talking about.

I think it's funny as hell myself, not because it's that great of a bit but because EVERY morning show here is exactly like that. I can't listen to it anymore because all I hear is Ace saying weather, news, time, weather, news, sports... 14 past the hour that's 46 minutes until the next hour.

The bit with David Lee Roth was awesome. And the fact that Adam was spot on and in agreement with a like-minded person who has been there made it even better.

Also, his rant about the piece on Huffington about his "racist" comments with Lt. Gov. Newsom was fantastic.

Once again, this thread is dead.
Still curious if anyone has tried Mangria. According to Adam, he's sold a shitload of it. Also curious if anyone has donated to his "Road Hard" movie. The video with Cranston was pretty damn funny. The premise sounds funny and I like the skirting the system mentality. Yet, we know how that's worked before.

Does anyone listen to Mohr Stories? He has had some great guests (recently George Wallace, David Lee Roth, Duff McKagan, Perry Farrell, Forrest Griffin, John Doe, Josh Homme, Steve Lillywhite) and is a pretty good interviewer. He doesn't do what Adam does by interjecting his opinions, but actually delves into the person and their history. Its a good listen.

The Mangria is ok but for 18 bucks a bottle he can keep it.

I didn't contribute to the movie but if it gets a theatrical release I'll go see it. Personally I'd bet it gets a on demand or DVD release, in which case I'll still pay to watch it.

Jay Mohr is great but some of his episodes fall flat, I guess that it isn't any different than other podcasts but any episode with Barry Katz or Uncle Dan I am listening.

If you haven't listened to any of the Uncle Dan stuff you are missing out, dude has lived a funny life.

Exactly. Bought a bottle and enjoyed it, but you can get much better wine for $18. It would be more reasonable at around $12.

And same as Flat_Rate. I'll go see the movie and probably pick the DVD up, but that's about as far as my support goes. I bought both books, click through the site to Amazon, etc already.

Plus, I feel the his podcasts are becoming old hat. Long time listener, but now its the same rants/stories over and over again. His angry schtick was funny because it used to come out of nowhere at nothing important. Now his political whining, constant raging about his family, and belittling of his staff is getting tired and annoying. He's a funny guy, but I feel like he'd be a huge dickhead to know personally.

I grew out of thinking Tucker Max was funny, and maybe its happening with the podcasts too. I just find myself laughing at them less and less.

I still think he's got it. The episode with Paul Scheer is hilarious and I've listened to the Tom Papa episode maybe 50 times. I agree his put downs of his workers gets old and his political rants can be tiring, which has basically killed the Adam and Drew show for me (it started off so fucking good too). I've actually started listening to the old Lovelines as well and think its kind of fun to hear them under the constraints of radio. Adam is a lot quicker on his feet than you'd think or get from his podcast and comes up with stuff off the cuff pretty well. The Pamela Gidley one was pretty hilarious. But they release like one a friggin week which will take a millennia to get through at that rate.

Id probably try a bottle just to try it but they don't distribute Mangria in Ohio. 18 bucks is pretty steep.

Also, Bert Kreischer's podcast is pretty solid and worth checking out.

I re-rediscovered the Aceman after a long layoff.

I like how Adam is basically a moderate, who has a lot of right-of-center & libertarian positions, and he's labelled as "right wing" because he's friends with Glenn Beck. Funny how his friendship with Alec Baldwin is given short shrift.

I thought his interview with Gavin Newsom was telling. GN is a dolt. He's what's wrong with our entire state.

If you divide up the state between Conservative, Moderate and Liberal; Moderates are the largest plurality. #2 is CONSERVATIVES. You'd never know that by reading the LA Times or watching local news by the way they cover pretty moderate republicans as "extremists", moderate democrats as "blue dogs" and wacked out, leftist progressives as "mainstream, common sense".

That argument with Bryan Cranston was fake right? Cranston seemed like he was acting as ridiculous as possible to be funny, except it was more uncomfortable then funny, and afterward Carolla didn't really act like it was a joke.

Yeah, very fake. It's an ongoing joke they have. Here's their first one if you didn't see it:

Everything with Cranston promoting Road Hard was scripted or at least the guidelines for the imrpov.

    You can't possibly be serious.

On a related note. Carolla said he sent Cranston an email afterward thanking him for the exchange they had. Cranston's reply: "Fuck you". Awesome.

Did he say he was taking a huge chunk of time off? Maybe I skipped an intro last week or something but my mornings aren't complete without something to download from the aceman.....
