This was posted earlier. Seems appropriate to your question.
Also I was very nearly crying from laughter during the Lydia vs. Gate video.

With all the love Skyrim has gotten I'm finally working my way through Oblivion and I have to say it's one of the best games I've ever played. It's well worth the money when you seem to be lucky to get 20 hours out of a single player game today as it's looking like you can lose hundreds in this one without redoing anything. So I'm lagging behind most people, but am really glad I finally started this.

On a different note, has anyone here witnessed how much e-sports has grown the last year? Admittedly, I'm only a casual fan, but it seems like viewership has increased twenty fold rapidly, and you can actually play video games professionally now without living in your mom's basement. I have no desire to do so, but I'm pretty happy with the change. I know there is still a stigma around actually setting time aside to watch it, but hate on me all you want, there's still e-sports that are 100x more entertaining to me than sitting through a game of baseball.

Completely agreed. I've posted on here several times regarding live SC2 games, and there's nothing like watching people post on their Facebook about MLG or GSL the way people normally would about a football game. You know it's big when people like Destiny can basically make a reasonable income just streaming their ladder games. I'm definitely going to an MLG event this year come hell or high water, I'm still kicking myself over missing the one in Orlando.

The G4 crew discussed e-sports in their latest edition of Feedback.
    http://www.g4tv.com/videos/56734/feedback-shigeru-miyamotos-retirement-and-2011-a-year-in-review/

I myself am kind of meh about it, and Blair in the video pretty much surmises my opinion. I've watched a couple CoD tournies online and was entertained for 30 minutes or so, but that was it. People have been saying e-sports was going to take off for a while now. Yes, it has grown significantly, but it hasn't exploded into the mainstream, and I really don't see that happening anytime in the foreseeable future. I liked the poker analogy of how it just blew up once they started utilized the hole camera.

    ====

Am I the only person who feels the need for a video game diet after basically overdosing September through December? Maybe it's just that I'm not very enthused for most of the AAA titles coming out in 2012.

Cannot agree with this more. E-sports are so goddamned fun to watch. I've been live streaming LoL-pro Chaox from Team Solo Mid at every chance I get. He is a literally a genius when it comes to gameplay strategy, not too shocking that he also aced his SATs. Man, I even love watching pro SC2 and have never played a game in my life. So glad e-sports are continuing to increase in popularity.

Pro COD is gay as aids. Seriously it is very hard to get enthused about, it isn't just you.

I've decided not to play Skyrim on the hardest difficulty since I'd like to finish before I die. My guy somehow has an arrow permanently stuck going through his head, I'm going to go brag to any guard that says he took an arrow to the knee.

I've been roped in as well, a friend and former WoW guildmate let me make a test drive toon on his account, and I liked it so much I went and bought a computer to play it on with my Christmas Bonus. The quoted part is accurate as can be, the voice acting and story really draws you in. Plus it doesn't feel like as much of a grind as previous MMO's and I think that's in part due to having companions. You can send them out to do all the resource gathering for your skills (I.e. Farming, crafting) in addition to be able to send them off to sell your vendor trash for you.

If you liked any of The Old Republic RPG's then you'll love this, since it's pretty much The Old Republic 3-6, just set in an MMO format.

Anyone playing Dungeon Defenders? Steam had it on sale most of the holiday season. It's a mix of tower defense with a hero that you can find gear for and upgrade.

I know all my new game experiences are years behind everyone else, but I just found STALKER: Chernobyl. I'm kinda conflicted here. I really want to like this game, I do. Decent graphics, interesting story, fun gameplay. But does it have to be so damn HARD? I like the realistic aspect of the gameplay (realistic not counting anomalies that break the laws of physics) but I'm tired of having to pause and save every two minutes for fear of dying.

Of course, I could forget to save, run around and complete a side mission, run around more and die after using 50 rounds of pistol ammo to kill a single military guard before dying to a second, and then realize the last half hour of my life has literally been completely and totally wasted, but I already tried that and SWEET JESUS WHY?

Anyway, maybe I just need some practice. For now I'll settle for frequent death and the pleasure of actually having a video card that can run the game.

Just started playing through Zelda: Skyward Sword. I'm through the first two dungeons, and so far I am digging it. A few points:

    1) This game gets going MUCH faster than Twilight Princess, but it still took seemingly forever to get to the first dungeon. I think this is more of an indictment of Twilight Princess, though.

    2) The story is typical Zelda fare, along with a lot of the basic 'fetch quests' that come with Zelda games. That said, they seem more rewarding than before and the other Zelda games I have played.

    3) I like the motion controls, usually, but they really aren't that accurate. They clearly loved the idea of needing to swing your sword in a certain direction to not get your hits blocked or be useless, and they used it on every single enemy. This can get really frustrating when what should be a simple enemy takes forever to kill.

    4) Boss fights are a blast. Seriously, I've only been in two, but both were fun as hell.

Overall, not as good as Ocarina of Time (though I'm not done, so we'll still see) but I'd still recommend it, and I do think it is better than Twilight Princess.

I was going to post this in the Youtube Allstar thread, but I figured denizens of this thread would appreciate it more.

How is it that a search for "Bastion" yielded no results on this forum? That game is fucking beautiful and needs to be played by every one of you people.

Here's the website. Thank me later.

This is the truth. I got it on a Diablo craving yesterday and, while it's not really anything like Diablo, it's still awesome and beautiful and surreal and even kind of poignant. The weapons/upgrades are all fun and interesting to use, combat is pretty crisp (although the shotgun & the pets you can summon make it sort of easy), and goddamn it is fun to look at. Seconded that it's definitely worth the price, although I'm kicking myself for not getting it during the sale when it was like $2.50 on Steam...

There's not enough mobile games talk on here. I have Mega Man x for my iPhone and it's fucking awesome. From the looks of the above video its the exact same game just with a little updated graphics. Also, Robot Unicorn Attack is the best .99 I've ever spent.

For anyone who has played STALKER: I was running through the Wild area and capped a Duty member who I thought was a bandit. Yeah...going back to that camp isn't working too well now.

Really hoping the mod I download lets me reset faction aggression without losing my save file, or else I get to pick between 20 hours of play down the drain, or spending the rest of the game with a very important faction shooting me on sight. I understand faction relations, and it's a great system, but too fucking rigid.

I think I've mentioned it before, but I have Final Fantasy Tactics and Secret of Mana on my touch, both were phenomenally imported... still waiting on ipad versions though.

I also have Final Fantasy III (The Japanese NES one that never made it over) on ipad. Very good game, a huge improvement over Final Fantasy I with the job class system. Tough game though, throws you back to the day where not only do they not spoon feed you what you're suppose to do it's downright frustrating without using guides.

As for mobile originals, I have Angry Birds and Cut the Rope. I like Angry Birds but I think the over saturation from it being on EVERYTHING made me bored with it. Cut the Rope is too easy but quite fun, highly recommend at least trying the free version.

I have Angry Birds as well, but the game kind of lost it magic after the first few stages. I'm definitely going to have to check out FF after I finish Mega Man. I also purchased A Bards Tale because it was on sale, it's supposed to be like the Skyrim of mobile games, but I have yet to play it.

On this same vein, anyone watching the NASL qualifiers? This FXO-Roxkis series is pretty damn good actually.

Can't you just join Freedom then?
I never quite saw how you could get to the bar then with all the Duty member hanging around at the warehouse, but it must be possible.
Or you just kill all the Duty member at the base, they don't respawn that much if you re-visit.
I don't know how strong you are, but with 20 hours of playtime they should at least not be able to one-hit you.
