I'll be going to Dublin and Amsterdam in late May/early June. I plan to stay at Paddy's Palace in Dublin and The Flying Pig Downtown in Amsterdam. Does anyone have any advice - absolute must-see sights, pubs to visit, places to avoid?

I'm currently working on a research project looking at selective exposure in the Internet media regime (ie, news media, politician's twitter accounts, government websites, etc, etc). The crux of it is that I need to find a measure that tracks audience partisanship--whether by party ID or general ideology--of these kinds of websites. I know that Alexa and google analytics do some audience analysis, but it's mostly simple sociodemographic indicators. There's some work out there with blogs regarding this area, but this research is looking at the Internet more generally since the audience share of political blogs is very low and highly gentrified. Given how tech-savvy everybody is here, does anyone know of any service that might be of use? Thanks!

Trying to book a cheap roundtrip flight to Vegas from San Francisco for April 7th and returning April 10th. Best I am finding is $377.

Yes I know I am dumb for waiting this long but I am going there to cover a fight and I needed to make sure my credential was taken care of before I started thinking. Any tricks or tips on flights would be appreciated.

I've stayed there, it's in a fantastic location and really really cheap. I think I stayed their one night for like 7Euro.

It's situated on the Liffey, and if you go right across the bridge in front of it there is a fantastic bar called 'The ha'penny inn'. Although it's just on the edge of the temple bar area, it doesn't get as many tourists as Temple bar itself and there's usually a session on (live traditional music) most afternoons. The crowd is really friendly and the barman is a great guy.

It's actually one of the cheaper bars in Dublin too, a pint of Guinness is 3.30Euro last time I was there. They do an excellant stew too.

If you're interested in Irish history I'd recommend getting a taxi to Kilmanem jail. It's where the leaders of the 1916 Easter rising were held and executed. A very stoic and interesting place with a good tour. There's a bar directly across from it called 'The patriot's inn', that's really good too and the people who helped restore the jail often drink there.

Anyone with advice on finding an apartment, and particularly doing so in New York City, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm new to this whole "adult person" thing.

So, my old computer, housing all of my musics, died a quick death a couple of months ago. I still have my ipod and iphone with playlists, music, etc stored on my old computer. Problem is, if I sync it to my new computer to add new stuff, it will wipe out all of my old stuff, right? Anyway to sync my iphone to my computer so all of my music and playlists transfer so I can add on to it instead of starting fresh?

Headed to Hawaii this September, and I'm checking to see if anyone happens to have any coupon codes for Interisland fares (between HNL and KOA on August 31st).

Thanks in advance. I'll send you a postcard.

Alright, here's the situation: sore/itchy throat possibly caused by seasonal allergies. After amazing mushroom soup procured from local Japanese restaurant that always cures sore throats, and two hearty glasses of whiskey on the rocks, throat is still scratchy and subsequent cough is still prevalent. Could keep drinking whiskey, but I don't want to get shitfaced (I know, I know).

I don't want any night-time stuff yet because I have to stay up and watch the game. Any ideas are welcome.

I'd go with tea and honey. Or just skip the tea.

Honey actually will coat and soothe the throat.

It's a little late in the season now, but my GF use to have BAD allergies until she she started taking a tea spoon of local honey every morning in winter. Supposedly it helps you build up an immunity to the allergens or something, I don't know if it's placebo or what, but it's been working for her.

But yeah, just doing a tea spoon of honey will help soothe things right now too.

    Thanks guys.

Best thing for a sore throat is to dissolve a couple tablespoons of cayenne pepper, lemon juice, and salt in warm water and gargle as long as you can stand it. Tastes like pure hell, but that's not the point.

The salt will help with inflammation, the cayenne will numb your throat and clear your sinuses, and the lemon juice will help loosen the phlegm.

    You can thank me later.

I'll be attending Northwestern for grad school in the Fall. Is anyone familiar with the Chicago/suburbs/Evanston area that could point me to or away from certain neighborhoods to find a place to live? I'm thinking I'd like to live near campus but the prices seem high. I've been looking on apartmentpeople.com and craigslist to get a feel for some neighborhoods to start with. For a studio or 1 bedroom, how much am I looking at for utilities? Any general tips for someone moving to the area? Also, this is probably a stretch, but can anyone recommend a good Muay Thai gym?

    Thanks.

The media rate I was going to get for a room at the MGM for Friday and Saturday fell through and now I am left scrambling to try and find something on the strip that isn't third tier at last minute. What's the best strategy for doing this? Does it involve yelling "I'm fucked" at the top of my lungs?

Stay at the Luxor or Excalibur for half the price - they are both right across the street and since all you should be doing there is sleeping (or fucking) and you can walk to the MGM and nobody knows the difference. I checked the Luxor and they have rooms available.

I posted this on the tech board without luck. I realise this is a stupid question, but fuck me if it hasn't caused me shit:

My internet speed has dropped dramatically of late. Downloading I used to average 1mb/sec which has now dropped to 200kb/sec. If downloading any file I am also unable to run a browser. I have no idea where to even start with the problem.
