I think this is a good point. It feels like they never expected to get picked up after the initial order, and then had to rush and come up with more episodes. The latest episodes just feel like they aren't quite finished, and are missing that last bit of polishing that they need. I wonder if some of the writers changed. No matter what, there is a different feel from the last couple episodes. The characters are just slightly "off."

This new storyline with Jesse is stupid. He's such an obnoxious douche that I can't take him seriously as a character, and can't believe the storyline with him and Rachel at all. Even as ridiculous as high school kids are, and the leeway I give the show when it comes to realism, it just doesn't work.

At least in the early episodes, the characters and storylines seemed somewhat like something that could exist in a high school. Now, that awkward "high school" feeling is quickly disappearing.

Don't really feel like starting a new thread, but goddamn, is Brittany smoking hot in that first song of the Britney Ep, or what? I mean, I know that girl was a professional backup dancer before this show, but shit. I kinda wanna download her version of that song for spank material.

Yeah, that was completely mind blowing. My only knowledge of her was as the dumb chick roll she plays on the show, and seeing her like that was startling. I actually thought she was better than Britney Spears all around. They need to showcase her a LOT more.

I absolutely LOVE Lea Michelle, but every time she dances part of my soul dies a little bit. She is so awkward, knock-kneed, and just....awkward. I cringed watching her.

The Britney episode was almost as good as Madonna's.

Fuck that, the Britney ep was better than Madonna's.

And E. Tuff, you're right. When Lea did "Hit Me Baby..." I couldn't help but notice how proficient of a dancer she's not.

I'd still bend her over my couch, don't get me wrong, but.

Is it just me, or is the writing stronger this season? The one liners have been fantastic, and they've been finding ways to get the mains into all the storylines.

Also, I hope they can somehow incorporate Jonathan Groff back into this season. He and Lea have great chemistry, and he's one of the stronger singers they've had on the show.

Fuckin christ, third time trying to post this, I keep accidentally deleting it (Freud?).

Scootah made some disparaging comments that got deleted that brought up the issue of why many people shy away from it. They think enjoying musical comedy = gay. Well, he's the last person I thought would have brought up something like that, maybe that's why it's gone.

Look, if you dislike the show for it's writing, it's characters, plot structure, etc., I get it. Maybe it's not your show.

But if you're dismissing it out-of-hand because it's musical, then... Well, go ahead and throw away Appetite for Destruction, All your Van Halen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Jimmie Hendrix, Led Zepplin...

If you think being musical is gay then you either get rid of all your shit, or become self aware. Just a minor point.

Also, I've never enjoyed these two songs as much as I did until they were on this show. A crippled kid getting his wish to be able to dance in a daydream, to Men In Hats:

Also, I never enjoyed fucking GaGa until I saw an estranged mother and daughter turn it into a bonding song:

Edit: The Mother in that last song? Tony winner Idina Mendzal.

Also, if I can find the Brittany dancing to Britney video, you will all change your tune.

I deleted the post myself - after re-reading it, I decided that the joke wasn't actually funny and that it was actually a dick move and it was politer to just shut the fuck up.

Honestly? I like Musical Theatre. I did productions of Joseph and Miss Saigon as a kid. I know the words to almost every andrew lloyd webber musical and can sing the parts for every role (well I could when I was a kid - my hearing sucks and I can't sing to save myself now, but I digress). I was in a musical commedy group (we called ourselves a band - but anyone who wasn't laughing at us, wasn't listening) and to this day am an obsessive fan of The Doug Anthony All Stars - despite the fact that two of the three are have lame careers that don't qualify for F list and the most successful member of the group would struggle for C list. Also - I have an IM window open right now with a boy who wants me to tie him up and beat him before he blows me on Saturday.

It's just that I don't like the script, the characters, the majority of the jokes, the story or the delivery, the fact that it's a musical or the fact that it's set in a highschool. The Sue character is the only part of the show with any redeeming qualities - and I don't think she comes close to saving the show unfortunately. But when I said that the show was gay - I meant that it beat to death all the unfunniest parts of camp musical theater. It's a collection of the worst parts of drag queen shtick and unfunny queens. It's all the things about 'gay' that aren't awesome. If you can't do drag queen humour in a musical setting starring a wicked bitch and a bunch of geeks - you suck as a comedy writer. If I think of a better analogy for why the show is awful - I'll update.

First off, I love how honest a person you are. You rarely see that today.

As for your evaluation of the show:

There are only a couple actual "Actors" on the show, Lea Michelle (Rachel) and Matt Morrison (Mr. Schue). I think the rest of them were either fresh out of auditions or never done anything noteworthy kinda folks. I know that really doesn't make a big difference if you're gonna be acting on a big time network show, but I think the cast has been doing kickass.

The fact that it's set in highschool sort of informs the writing and the jokes. I don't know how it was in OZ, but it sort of feels like an elevated version of the school I went to (except that the arts were given almost equal precedence as our state winning football team).

Sure, there weren't as many openly gay dudes (though there were some, and they weren't in choir), and they didn't try to be "drag queens" (also not in choir).

I guess I can say I love this show because it's a funnier, more attractive version of the school I went to, only the singing kids were more popular in real life, and less funny than on this show.

    And much worse dancers...

My earlier point stands, though. Hate it for plot or writing, etc. Don't hate it because it's a musical comedy...

Yeah, I'm pretty sure most of them never sang a note until they showed up at the audition and found out it was for a musical.

No. Lea, Tina (Asian chick), and Jesse were in the original cast of "Spring Awakening" together. (This is one of my favorite musicals ever, and it won like 11 Tonys a few years ago.) Mr. Schuester was on Broadway, too. The Asian kid was in a few dance movies. Not to mention the guest artists.

They're all actors. Just because you don't know them from Hollywood doesn't mean they haven't been on stage or performing for years. That's why I like this show. I've grown up with so many shitty dance movies with Hollywood girls posing as dancers AND crappy movie versions of musicals. I'm tired of Hollywood stars replacing talented artists on film. It's so much nicer to watch talent instead of Hollywood posing as talent.

Santana and Brittany getting it on... More, please?

Whatever Santana said about scissoring had me cracking up.

And her song with Mercedes was easily one of the best this season. No idea what song it was, but it ruled.

I guess I shouldn't have stopped watching this show.

Seriously though, I'll need to catch up once I get back to the States.

I desperately want next weeks episode to get here already. In high school, my friends and I were huge Rocky Horror freaks, and I can't say I've totally grown out of it. I'm just interested to see who is going to be Frank. I watched both promos, and they don't give any hint at all.

Someone said something about Glee being a different show, it is because it is essentially 3 different shows because of the three different creators that write for the show. The A.V. Club does a great job of breaking this down week to week with their recaps. Actually one of their freelance writers made a mini-site here so you know what type of episode to expect.

If you're too lazy to click the link here is the general breakdown.
Now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

I've always liked Gwyneth Paltrow but now I'm completely in love with her. This was a fantastic song, and one of my favorite episodes overall.
