My father-in-law isn't what you would call an adventurous guy. He's traveled a lot domestically with his family, but not internationally. His first trip out of the country was to Italy. Didn't even make it through his first day before his wallet got lifted. I got an angry text saying he was going to burn his passport because he wasn't ever leaving the country again. The thief must have been disappointed; all they got was a couple credit cards which were immediately cancelled, and a picture of his mother.
Thanks - no longer in Sorrento, but I can recommend it to friends coming over in June. Currently in Venice, heading back to Rome.

Good catch! We got a slim pack thingy that goes under our shirt for the really important stuff (passports, extra money, ID's, CC's etc) I usually keep my wallet in my back pocket but definitely will need to remember to put it in my front pocket.
I love Italy, but pickpockets there are no joke. I have a waterproof wallet that I run with, when I do a race I put my ID, a credit card and a $20 in there in case shit happens. I put a tether on it for the London marathon in case it falls out of my zipped pocket when I'm getting something. I'm gonna use that when we walk around the city as well.
One of my favorite things about Venice was that the city "busses" are boats. Why pay tons for a gondola when you can just hop on the bus and cruise around? Also https://www.adagiocaffe.it/en/ was my favorite wine bar/cafe we went to in Venice - we ate tons of cicchetti and they didn't feel like they had been sitting around for 4 days waiting for the right tourist to foolishly buy them. And Al Bacco Imbriaco was this little wine shop in Cannaregio where we got a plastic bottle of surprisingly tasty tap prosecco for basically no money, and proceeded to wander around and get afternoon drunk. The guy working there was super friendly and it was tempting to buy way too much wine.
We took the “water bus” also, as well as a water taxi back to the train station. It is like two experiences in one- you get where you need to go, but also take a mini cruise. I could not tell you the name of one place we ate or drank at. We stopped at a few places each day for drinks, lunch and dinner, usually on the basis of “this place looks cool and I’m thirsty/hungry, let’s stop here”. Usually it worked out just fine.
We mostly did the same, but I like to drop pins at my favorite places to remember since my brain is definitely not to be trusted.
Any of yall in Phoenix? We are looking to relocate out of the DMV, and it's on our shortlist. I'd love to ask some nuanced questions about it, if you're amenable.

I’ve been there a few times but it was to camp… just showed up and vegged. Didn’t really go looking to do anything near there. It’s a beautiful area. for sure… they just have a deer population issue (no natural predators left) so they cull them a couple times a year.
We have a similar problem where I live…. Don’t get me started on the “deer lives matter” protestors. We will likely spend a lot of time rock hunting on the beach and going to parks because the almost 4 year old is the vacationer with the most opinions, and his grandparents are his biggest enablers. I was wondering if any of the wineries are worth a visit now that I’m done being pregnant forever and can imbibe again. I’m a sucker for a wine tasting, even if it’s not great.
You get it. They won for 2 years and it was like zombie deer hordes everywhere... invading the local towns, eating garbage... then they kind of agreed that a yearly cull was probably a good thing after all. Sorry... I have no clue. I've never been to any Ontario wineries.
DC occasionally does a deer cull in Rock Creek park. Everytime, they get protests saying they should trap the deer and use a contraceptive. A process that is significantly more expensive and less effective than shooting them. The meat goes to the local homeless shelters. I'll have to see if I can find the Washington Post article from 2010 or 2011 about it. The comments were golden
