Happy Easter! Eat a ham. Here's an egg for you in these trying times. I'm sitting in my hammock on the deck enjoying perfect weather. 69F and sunny. Tomorrow we are having an egg hunt out front with the neighbor kids. Then, I think it'll be outside, gardening, puttering time. Here are some cute bunnies. Usually we’d go to my in-laws for Easter dinner but they’re in the middle of moving from an absolutely gigantic house to an apartment. So obviously they’re not hosting for holidays anymore. My parents are having dinner but we decided to skip that and eat here. We’ll visit them after. Easter ended up on the back burner this year I guess.
We’re having a small group here- just the immediate in laws. The Missanthropic is doing her own thing with friends at college. More often than not we don’t do Easter gatherings anymore because we’re traveling. The Mrsanthropic really wanted to have the immediate family over this year, I think mostly because the mother in law is getting up there in years. Dinner will essentially be Thanksgiving dinner, but swapping the turkey for pork tenderloin and switching up the desserts.
My mom, sister, and BIL head off on a Japanese cruise tomorrow, so tonight is a very quick and simple dinner at my BIL's mother's place. They're all just too stressed out about getting ready to leave, all while my sister's place has a new, flooding crack in the foundation. It's been raining a shit ton around here lately so of course this has caused new flooding and a drain backup in their basement. They're high-strung at the best of times, so needless to say they are freaking out and hinting at cancelling the trip as a result. Looking forward to a bit of a break with just me and the dog for a while. My food tastes are a bit different than my mom's, so I'm looking forward at doing a bunch of cooking of stuff that I love but she doesn't eat. Case in point, the boneless leg of lamb resting in the fridge. Tomorrow it gets put in the marinade, then it gets seasoned, rolled and tied up like a porchetta, then high temp smoked. I'd planned to do this for a while, but then Meat Church did a video of exactly that, which seemed like divine messaging... "do it!" Other than that, I'm enjoying a nice 4 day weekend.
