Yeah, drywalling over paneling is pretty common as it eliminates the need to do all that demo work.

You can also drywall over concrete.

    Been chasing an electrical issue.

    Pro tip: Don't drive a screw through an electrical wire;

Finally figured it out and we have light!!

Rumor has it that NASA are looking for some new staff to work on their rockets, something to do with electrical wiring.

I just fixed the kid's Stacyc, after I misrouted some wiring and put a screw thru a bundle of 26awg sensor wires. To replace the wires would have been $300 for a new part. I used solder seal connectors to fix it. I hate dealing with small wiring, but solder seals are awesome.

Yep... ran across them about 2 years ago, and have a big assorted size box of them. As I slowly do electrical work around the house, I upgrade from the typically shitty wire nuts that are there now.

I tried some similar ones a while back but they didn't have the lever tab so once you inserted the wire, it wasn't coming out. One screw up and your wire is now shorter and you wasted a connector.

I treated myself to a new Stihl weed wacker today. Been using an old Echo my step-dad handed down to me for the past six years. It had been a good one, but was already thoroughly used by the time I got it, and it finally went all to hell end of last season.

I really want a propane tank and a weed burner. It's the one "extra" purchase that I couldn't quite spring for recently. I'm convinced that's the only way my gravel area around my fire pit is going to be managed without breaking my back out there every week. I've seen folks around here doing it, it's pretty common.

Do people burn weeds as part of maintenance around your parts? Never seen it til I moved here.

I do exactly that. It's pretty cheap... I have a dolly that you put your normal 50lbs tank on, and it has a rosebud burner on it.

I got a cheap burner from Amazon and it was shit, so ended up getting one of these: https://flameengineering.com/collections/weeddragon

    It works fantastic.

I use it because my dad put in an interlocking brick driveway that I absolutely fucking HATE. Hard to shovel in the winter, and weeds constantly grow up through the cracks in the summer... it's almost constant maintenance, and I've tried every chemical known to man to try and stop it... from industrial vinegar to the cancer-causing American version of Roundup (aka The Good Shit™ that actually works), to farmer-grade herbicides that I am not licensed to own/use... nothing works as well as fire.

The one thing I did do is buy a cheap remote igniter from Amazon and zip-tied it to the burner for easier, push-button starting, rather than using the old flint striker.

    Can you link that?

I see on my recent search a dolly like you were talking about. My back is fucked and I can't carry much. Thanks for the product link ... I knew the cheapo ones weren't going to cut it and I was overwhelmed with the choices.

What kind of burn time do you have on your 50gal tank? Another concern I had was how expensive it would be to use

Be aware how much gas you go through is directly related to the size of the thing you're flamethrowering, and how hot you make the torch.

The way I use it, and how often I use it, and the size of my driveway (at least the problem spots), gets me that propane usage. Your mileage will vary.

I'm about due to refill the tank I think as it's getting pretty light.

I also use that same tank to refill the small tanks I use for my BBQ flame thrower.

    upload_2025-4-12_11-29-1.png

I got a refill kit for the small propane tanks to save me some cash by buying propane in bigger tanks.

I don't have a refillable small tank, but I made a small valve removal tool to make my current tanks refillable.

Just realized I meant to say 20 lbs tank, not 50. The typical bbq tank size.

I figured out the cheat code to maximizing egg profits. Sell fertile eggs! I just got $60 + $10 delivery for a dozen fertile Holderread line Welsh Harlequin eggs.
