It appears I'm slightly off: "Instead of ruling their own planet, the faithful are believed to inherit portions of the universe or become rulers of their own "celestial kingdoms," developing their own worlds and people."
Because the LDS church actively tries to hide a lot of old doctrine that makes them seem really weird. Here’s the best sum-up I can give: the president of the LDS church is considered “prophet, seer, and revelator,” which means they speak for God. The first few prophets were totally on board with this, and said all sorts of shit…and as the years went by, the presidents realized that they had so many weird doctrines due to different people saying different shit. BUT - you can’t admit a prophet’s words aren’t true, so they just kinda stopped talking about those things, or lied and said they never happened. the latest issue is John Taylor’s 1886 revelation declaring polygamy to never stop, which the LDS church denied existed - for over 100 years. They just recently released the original documents proving it was real.
Essentially when you die you get to be Harrison Ford in the Mosquito Coast, only you have to dress gay but you get laid a LOT. ….and no black people.
Not totally true! Black people were eventually told they’d be able to get into the celestial kingdom… …and be slaves there. But then they fully integrated the afterlife in 1978*, when it was obvious the government was gonna come after their money. The Mormons usually change their doctrine based on how much the government plans to force them to do it. *women still look forward to pumping out spirit babies with their other sister wives, to populate the planet their husband inherited.
If you've ever watched Big Love, it's hilarious how Bill Paxton's character thinks he's the good guy because he's not openly a rapist and wife beater. Like that's the bar.
I mean he is the Alpha and the Omega as well as the father, son, and holy ghost. Just about covers it all.
I have a couple Mormon friends. They know I'm a total heathen. I'm a safe person to vent with about church drama and questions about faith they don't feel comfortable voicing to other Mormons. I just get my popcorn and listen. It's all fucking bonkers.
Eh, I think it's more complicated than that. Religion provides community, support, spirituality and is often closely tied to family. I feel for the people that now there is a lot of bullshit tied up with their religion, but don't want to give up those other things. Also, most Christian denominations aren't technically defined as cults. Cults are a specific type of religion where most of the "spiritual knowledge" is kept secret to only those in the inner circle and the rest of the "congregation" is kept in the dark and only relayed what the inner circle wants them to know. Theoretically no Christian denomination can be considered a cult because anyone can pick up a bible and read it and make there own interpretations.
This is why a lot of christians don’t see the LDS as a sect of Christianity, because it definitely has a cult-like aspect. While most of the secrets have been outed via the internet age, there was a lot of secretive rites and levels that were added in once Joseph Smith incorporated freemasonry into it. And there’s still stuff that’s more secretive, like “the second anointing” that means you’re good to go for the afterlife no matter what you do, short of murder. But, the reason why people stay in after losing faith - it’s such a huge part of the community. If you can deal with it and give your family what you believe is a nice upbringing with opportunities for their future, then it’s worth it to them.
Back to the main issue, though - what do you all think about these obviously false flag staged shootings by marine vets, who have been brainwashed by the trans community?
