Na, Xi blinked. Like, literally. He just sat there staring, doing nothing, and blinked, while Trump is backpedaling like a motherfucker while claiming a victory.
He was blinking Morse code for “I literally own your country, you fat fucking mongoloid. Do as I command.”
If they actually successfully ban those specific food dyes, it'll be one good thing that comes out of this admin.
Pollievre was an absolute shoe-in before Trump got elected and opened his mouth. Combined with Trudeau’s resignation and Carney making a decent early impression, they could win. The election isn’t until Monday though, and I no longer trust polls.
What is the rationale from the voters on picking the same party that had fairly abysmal performance in the last ~10 years? Is just whoever says they're going to fight whatever trade war with Trump the hardest? I guess that makes sense, but I'm genuinely curious. I don't know much about Pollievre other than he's a European-style populist.
Yep. Carney is the man to sort this shit out with Trump. The other parties either want to kiss his ass or have no clue what they should do. I'll pick the PhD Economist all day, every day. PP is a Trump Wannabe with same ideals... and we're saying "fuck that". Trump has done more to unite Canada than just about anything in recent memory. Even Quebec is part of Canada right now.
Trump has forged a new future for Canadian relations. It's not going to be a case of "in 4 years when he's out, things will go back to normal." No, that time is over. We are now being forced to create a whole new economy with new economic partners, one without the US, and that is a very complicated process that will have generational impact. Once they are formed, that is the new normal, and the US will not be a major part of it any time soon. Again, Carney has the experience and education to pull that off... the others don't come close. We see the absolute shit show that is going on in the US, and we are fighting hard to not follow suit. As a result we had record numbers of voters to the early polls. 9m compared to 4.8m record before that.
The way i see it is PP is a trump wannabee right wing populist. And we have seen what that does to a country(see trump/usa). And lots of people don't want any part of that.
Wifey and I voted on Good Friday. They were as busy there as the average election day normally would be.
We have looked at the absolute dumpster fire that the US has become within months of electing trump and have decided we want nothing to do with the party that is led by a guy who has been copying the MAGA playbook has been endorsed by Musk, Alex Jones, Conrad Black, Ben Shapiro, Joe Rogan, Jordan Peterson and a lot of other right wing maniacs. Trump gave him the same type of endorsement that Putin gave Trump during your election. Can't stop screeching about ending woke stuff but cannot for the life of them explain what that means. Has never accomplished anything other than being the equivalent of an internet troll but in government. He has steadfastly refused to get his security clearance so that he can be read in on threats to the country while offering up the biggest pile of bullshit on why he refuses to get his clearance https://www.thestar.com/opinion/con...cle_d3ca726c-fb91-4cca-bb46-dee8e7772f2c.html *Edited to add link to article about his security clearance that just popped up in my feed.
I'm curious how the social media influence works there. It has up fucked the last few elections here and I'd be curious how that plays out at the local levels. Trump is bad but the local shit is where the real damage is done. Trump would be useless without a spectrum of judges, local reps and money seeping into politics at a granular level. I go back to the Texas education paradigm as an example. The GOP capitalized on the wildly unpopular covid shut downs and downstream impacts on parents and played up the LGBT stuff in schools to promote "parent choice". It's a grift where tax money goes to private schools who can choose what students to allow in and raise prices on anyone they don't want (or are expensive to teach). The public schools get decimated to the point of closing, and the tech bros swoop in with zoom classes taught by someone in India for pennies on the dollar (or otherwise wildly unqualified folks), making a fuckton of money on tech sold to schools at the state or district level. They can lower property taxes as a popular appeal, and most folks relocating there either can afford the private schools or don't have kids and hate paying high property taxes (in lieu of income taxes). So everyone makes money, but the kids get fucked over. Friendly judges swat down any suits and a GOP backed force attack local school board elections that are supposed to be nonpartisan. This relies on laws written before reps are elected and a host of lobbyists, who rely on social media engagement that leads polls. This works when it.can be replicated across districts or states, and you see the EOs clearing a path nationwide.
I understand the sentiment driving this perspective, but in reality, I don't think it's possible in the long term. If Canada actually want's this, you all need to start having a lot of babies.
We won't completely eliminate the US, but we're now engaging in options other than the US that we never felt we had to before. It will reduce the dependency on the US. By how much will be an interesting thing.
