Happy Sleep Under the Stars day! Anybody here love camping? I have a wonderful hammock in my deck and we do see stars at night. It counts. If you pass out on your deck it also counts @Nettdata This summer has been incredibly busy. My kid starts school in September (holy shit where did the time go) and I'm looking forward to a more structured schedule for the week. We are homeschooling under a charter school, so wish me luck! I also have to increase my soap production to keep a local store stocked up with my stuff. On second thought, I don't think anything is slowing down. What do you idiots have planned this weekend? Any camping trips? Our weather has been fabulous. I was steeling my nerves for a sweltering August but it has actually been fine. We got a little rain even, which is fairly unusual.
Today was yardwork. Ended up filling the pickup with yard waste disposal bags and running it to the dump. I’m fucking tired now, and will go pick my dog up from camp, then bbq some marinated pork loin and pork belly on my yakitori grill while drinking sangria. There’s something quite satisfying about grilling meat bites on demand while drinking.
Too many bugs to sleep completely outdoors. Never a camper. I’ve been thinking of buying a pickup and putting a shell on it and a bed in it so I can camp until morning when I’m duck hunting.
My wife and I have camped in the Smoky Mountains, along the Delaware river and in Acadia. For decades, I, my brother in law and some other guys had a camping weekend every summer- Friday was just the dads, and Saturday we’d get the kids and spend Saturday, Sunday and sometimes Monday with them. No mom’s allowed. It was awesome and we all have great memories of those trips. All of those trips were tent camping. As I’m getting older, packing and lugging all of that stuff and sleeping on the ground in a tent are getting less appealing. I’m leaning towards renting a small RV for my next camping trip instead. This weekend is jam packed- State Fair tonight, seeing the in laws tomorrow, and a wedding on Sunday. The summer has been incredibly busy, both with work and “fun”. Like you I’m looking forward to things slowing down, whenever that happens. Next weekend we have nothing planned and I intend to keep it that way, but after that our weekends will be busy again into October.
Sailed to the beach for a bit, hung out with some other locals. It was an upwind slog, in shifty winds, to get out to the main channel. Probably spent an hour trying to make the first mile. Once out there in the open, it was a fast and fun ride. Then the wind picked up more for the downwind run home. Fast, but relaxing on the way back. Probably would have made better time if I cleaned the slime off the bottom.
I used to love camping. In Boy Scouts we camped at least once a month, including winter. Some slept in everything from tents to holes in snowbanks ( -20 that night. It sucked. ) With age came more aches and pains though and now I can’t sleep on the ground. I did it when our boys were in Scouts, but didn’t let them do the sub-zero camping. They weren’t as outdoorsy as I was at that age, and eventually they dropped out of the program. Camping at this stage of my life is a cabin with AC and good wi-fi.
That beach I was at today is the local Scouts camp, and much nicer than riverbank we camped on in scouts. It was so muggy and miserable on that river, no breeze ever. The scouts were here last weekend.
I camped in all seasons with scouts growing up. I lived for the summer in a tent when I worked at the local scout camp while in high school. As my boys get older, I will absolutely camp out with them as much as they want. However, after multiple years living in a tent while deployed...air-conditioned mil-spec tents and sleeping in the desert in or under vehicles; I find myself preferring the idea of dragging a camper instead of pitching a tent.
Went to my first Bills game today with my family. It was a lot of fun even though the Bills lost, but it’s only preseason. Holy shit it was hot though.
Had the cousin’s family over for some yakitori fun. I thought I prepped way too much meat for the grill. I was wrong.
Did some curry marinated chicken that was the hit of the night. Yogurt, coconut milk, red curry paste, garam masala, cumin, red pepper, garlic, and a ton of finely chopped cilantro... marinated for about 6 hour then grilled. Fucking amazing.
Given the main thing it looks like you served was meat along with them being teenage boys, it was a pretty sure bet with the quantities
Yeah. One of them just did a weekend ball tournament to win the Ontario Championships (hence the t-shirt). Insane mix of crazy hungry and super tired. Hunger won out. Also wore my dog out playing with her (they have a 5 lbs fru-fru dog and LOVE playing with Zoe) to the point that she can barely walk up stairs now. It's awesome. They also have crazy mature taste... they loved the caprese salad, and the spinach and peach salad. It was awesome.
Preseason Browns and Shedeur Sanders beat the absolute snot out of my Panthers. I was pulling for Shedeur to prove everyone wrong, before I knew it would be against my home team!
Is there a Live Pool thread that's like the inverse of the Dead Pool thread? I just learned that The Temptations are still a touring act. Like you can buy a ticket to a Temptations show this summer. Sure, they've only got one surviving member from the original lineup, but that's still one more than I thought they had.
In my day 12 year old kids didn’t chow down on curried chicken. It was hilarious though… 3/4 of the way in they had full on meat sweats, but they powered through.
