    Personally, I don't make any.

I learned a long time ago that anything worth doing is worth doing at any time of the year, not just waiting for NY.

But I'm sure the guys selling gym memberships are glad that I'm in the minority.

Last time I made any resolutions I was in elementary school when we had to make them as part of class assignments.

In related news, I always find that the gym is far busier over the next two weeks than at any other time of year.

Cutting down on my drinking. No, seriously. I think that's one every year though.

I also found it fairly comical that one of my uncles got a bunch of "workout outfits" (????) for Christmas. And some Icy Hot. My Grandma got them for him, "not because he needs to, but because she heard he was going to be." Right.

Smoke less; preferably, not at all.

Waste less time on the Internet.

    I haven't made a new years resolution that I haven't broken within a week since ..... ever.

Every year prior to new years eve I tell myself that this year I'll cut down on my drinking. However every new years eve I'm wasted by midnight so I've actually managed to fail before I begin. I console myself with the fact that in 364 days time I can try cutting back again.

I have never made a new year's resolution before. This year, I'm technically not doing that either, but there are a couple things that I'm changing and it just happens to take place around this time of year.

Keep a journal. I've been thinking about doing this for a long time. About a month ago I randomly walked past that aisle in the book store and finally picked one up. I'm excited to read about how stupid and fucked up I currently am when I'm 70.

Save money. I finally got myself in a position where I'm mostly caught up on finances/debts. I also budgeted my money and that opened my eyes to how much money I'm currently wasting. I figured I can easily save $300 a month with minimal effort. And with the car troubles I've been having, I'll need to do that so I can at least put a down payment on a new (used) car in the next year or 2.

    Yup.

    Also:

Drink less. I had a little Rant/Rave about this not to long ago but basically, I drink way too much and it has seriously affected my life. Relationships have been strained, arrests have taken place, and I've generally become a much colder and uncaring person. Now I've had a hell of a lot of fun too, I just need to find that balance.

I've never made a New Year's resolution before and I generally find the concept weak and fucking lazy, but this isn't so much a NY's resolution as it is a timing coincidence. Changes in my life need to be made, so what the hell, might as well call it a resolution.

    Sigh. Stop smoking. Again.

To be fair I've cut back a lot in the past 2 months. From a pack a day to 2 cigarettes a day. I just have to make that final, troublesome leap. Cutting out the morning cigarette has always been the biggest hurdle.

That and start eating better. While I'm at an age(barely) where I can still get away with eating red meat every day, I really need to change my habits for the future. I've always been good about eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, but I have a really hard time cutting down on meat.

My New Year's resolutions are always cliche. Drink less, save money, work out more, be more confident, read more, tittyfuck fake breasts, etc., etc. I think that's why I never follow through with them. They're always something I decide on because it sounds nice on paper, not something that I actually want to accomplish.

So this year, I only have one: Figure out what I want to be.

Thus far I've lived life one year to the next -- hell, one month to the next -- with little thought for the future. I took my first job out of college because I was qualified and it paid. Two months in, I realized (insert Gob Bluth voice) I'd made a huge mistake. I want to spend this year finding a job title I want to work toward and begin down that path, but God knows what it's going to be. Where do I want to be in 10 years, and how do I get there?

    Also, tittyfuck fake breasts.

Well... I stopped smoking last winter. I've lost a bunch of weight. I'm in the gym six days a week.

1- I don't want to be blackout drunk at all in the next year.
2- I want to put at least 20 hours on my boat outside of waterfowl season.
3- I want to save enough money to buy a new motor for the boat listed in #2.

    1) Stop eating fast food. I'm pretty sure I'll lose 20 lbs. within a few months if I actually stick to this plan.
    2) Start cooking more at home. This obviously goes hand in hand with goal 1, but again, time to start being healthier.
2.5) Take lunch to school with me, so I am not tempted to stop at BK or McDonalds on the way home (again, goes right along with 1 and 2).
    3) Actually make an effort to get in some semblance of shape. I know I'll never be ripped or anything, but spending 20 to 30 minutes a day on a treadmill certainly won't hurt. It'd be nice to not be out of breath after 5 plays of football next Thanksgiving.

Clearly, I've grown to be a fatty over the last 3 months, and I am looking to reverse that trend.

    Two things, both health related:

    1) Take my osteoporosis supplements. We recently found out that, after years of my bone density taking a nose-dive, a brain tumor that was removed two years ago was in all likelihood leaching calcium from my diet and causing the precipitous fall. With the charts now stabilizing (I'm a 21 year old male, with the bone density of a 70 year old osteoporosis female), I need to get on board and start downing those Vitamin D pills and calcium supplements. The alternative would be clinical-grade, relatively new-and-untested medication that will cause some pretty serious side-effects.

    2) This should probably go as a question in the beer thread, but I do need to drink more beer. There's a solid reason behind this: I am extremely lightweight, with a hummingbird metabolism. For reasons involving helping the above, I really, really need to put on more weight. I've tried working out, protein shakes, change of diet, everything. Only thing that consistently works is beer. But, being that I'm an American -- and even worse in this case, a Texan--- my taste buds have a biological inclination toward light beer. Don't get me wrong, I prefer DFH, Sierra Nevada, Stone, etc, but they're expensive. So I need a good, drinkable, cheap, heavy beer. I can't stand Bud Light, or even worse, Budweiser; my current go-to is Coors Light and regular Coors is really pushing it. Anyone know anything better?

[I've been about half-and-half with the success of these things. I've tried and failed to: work out more, eat more at home, spend more time writing, drink less, give up smoking. I've also succeeded at: quitting smoking, as a result of vowing to "make progress toward stopping." Whatever works for you. I resolved to finish the book and get an agent, and I did, but I broke the contract six months later because I'll say "we had different ideas" (PM me if you are headed down this path and want some advice/what to look for/what to avoid). One year I resolved to finally get laid, and almost a year and a half later I was engaged. Didn't quite mean it like that.

These things are tricky. I say if you make them, make them more "I vow to start working on ____" or "start improving on _____" rather than an absolute.]

I've decided that I need to drink more in the new year. I'm 21, my tits are nice, and I'm just plain wasting my potential to become that girl in the bar who should've gone home two drinks ago.

I'd also like to find a job that I don't completely fucking loathe.
